Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote ControlDigital camera Review: A Must Have for entertainment centers Summary: 5 Stars
I have been wanting an all in one remote that can handle the many different brand electronics in my entertainment center. The software is easy to use and setup is a snap. With just one remote on my table now, I enjoy my entertainment center much more now that I do not have to find 6 different remotes and I no longer have to keep up with all those batteries. Excellent product for the price. Highly recommended.
Digital camera Review: A fine remote!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Logitech Harmony 550 remote is everything it is advertised to be. Once programmed all you have to do is choose an activity (like watch movie) and all the components necessary to do so come on in the correct modes. Programming was simple and all I had to do was list the brands and model numbers of all my components and follow the easy step by step instructions on the included CD. A VERY nice product!
Digital camera Review: A good little remote Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using this remote for about six months now and I'm very pleased with it. I like the computer interface to set it up but wish it had more capability like programming multiple features from several remotes within one remote option. I find I have to go between my TV option and my Set top box option too often. I generally have the remote set for the set top option but can only change the volume by using the tv option. No big deal but it would be nice. I like the feature that turns on the illumination when you pick it up. It has been very reliable and the battery life is decent.
Digital camera Review: A good one Summary: 5 Stars
I had my 12 year old program it and it works fine. Mother is happy to be able to turn everything on with one button every time. Sometimes it takes a while for the volume control to respond but I think that our sound system needs to warm up before it can receive the signal. It turns everything off with one button too. Easy to read screen. I just used the batteries in it so far and it hasn't lost power yet.
Digital camera Review: A good product. Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned a couple of low end universal remotes before but none of them came close to providing all the functionality of the remotes that they were supposed to replace. On top of that, those remotes were really hard to program. The Harmony 550 doesn't have either of these problems. It was really easy to program by connecting it to my PC (via USB) and running a Logitech application that allowed me to pick the exact equipment for the remotes I was programming into the 550. I had a little trouble with one part of the programming but called Logitech and got a good technician who solved my problem in about 10 minutes. I use the 550 to operate my LCD TV, cable box, A/V receiver and DVD player. I can press one button to "watch cable TV" or "watch DVD", or "listen to CDs" and the remote will turn on all the appropriate equipment. Using the LCD screen, I can even pick obscure functions for any of my devices when there isn't an actual button on the remote for that function. For example, some of the DVR functions on my cable box don't appear as buttons on the 550 but by using the LCD screen, I can scroll through a list of additional functions that cover everthing the original cable box remote does.
There's only one thing you need to be careful about. When using the one button "on" feature, you have to make sure you point the remote towards all the pieces of equipment that need to be turned on, and keep it pointed in that direction until everything turns on. Family members sometimes put the remote down before everything turns on which can cause something not to power on.
Although this is a really simple piece of equipment, you do need a little bit of smarts to operate it. If you spend the time to learn how it works, the payoff is well worth it. I've been using this remote for a few weeks now and haven't had any problems. I think it's great and definitely recommend it.
