Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote ControlDigital camera Review: Amazing remote! Summary: 5 Stars
i just received my harmony 550 today and i must say.. I am very pleased with this product. the set up is very easy to do, only took me about 15 minutes or so to get all my AV system configured. The only thing makes me mad a little bit was the CD software that came with the remote, it doesn't work with my mac! so i download it straight from logitech website, and it works perfectly. I've been playing around with the activities features! and I must say.. im very impressed! watching DVD, playing games and tv is very easy now.. with just a click of a button. No need for 3 remotes! harmony 550 does it all!

I'm not a computer wiz but this remote was so easy to use! It has made my life easier by reducing the clutter of all my remotes. My household uses a cable DVR, stereo receiver, Media PC and of course a TV. We were able to set up the remote to switch between watching cable (it works perfectly with the DVR) and the media PC as well as another level for playing video games. I couldn't have asked for more with this remote!
Digital camera Review: Amazing, Simple, Easy to use. Summary: 5 Stars
To put it simply this is the best remote I have ever used.
It took about 30 minutes to get everything working the way I wanted (for some reason anytime I choose other video game system it wanted to add my HP PC in the mix and would not allow me to remove it) also had an issue with my Rosewill switcher.
So I basically lied to the system said it was a x360 and it turns everything on except the ps3 (I am working on getting that dongle to get it to broadcast a ir signal)
The Rosewill switcher was a bit more problemmatic, I had to tell the software what buttons existed on it and sync the remote with it after fumbling with it for a bit it finally began to work.
From what I can tell on the remote it seems to have a motion sensor hence why the screen comes on mysteriousily?
One other minor issue but not really the remotes fault, when I use the remote with my media center pc if my laptop is in the room as well it will also turn it on.
The signal on this thing is pretty good too, it seems to have a wide range and doesn't need to be pointed at each device.
Would be nice if the remote could be turned off rather then going into a power save mode...but still for $50 and replacing 7 remotes = WIN

This is the first truly universal remote I've owned and I am not disappointed at all with it. Before getting this remote, I was juggling 3 to 4 different remotes. I have a Comcast hd dvr hooked up to an Onkyo AV receiver and a Sony TV. The comcast remote was good enough when watching tv. It has the ability to turn on all of the components and adjust the volume. But I was never able to get it to fully control the Receiver and tv. In order to change inputs you really had to use the remote for the receiver.
The Harmony 550, to put it simply, has changed my life, at least when it comes to tv. All it takes is the push of a button and it will turn on all of your devices and set them to the correct input. You can even take it a step further and have it change to a specific channel when it turns on. If after watching tv you decide you want to watch a movie or play a video game, all it takes is another push of a button. The remote will turn on the device you need, and turn off any devices you no longer need.
Setup is very straight forward and easy to use. Plug it into your computer and follow the instructions on how to add your devices. If at first the remote doesn't have a button or function that the original remote had, you can have the 550 learn it and set it to a button.
My only quarrel with this remote is not a problem with the Harmony 550 itself, but all universal remotes. It doesn't have bluetooth control. I own a PS3 and a Wii, both of which use bluetooth to turn on. It's not a huge problem since when playing games you have to use the controller anyways, but when I want to watch a dvd or blu-ray, it would be nice to be able to just use a universal remote.
Digital camera Review: An elegant and beautifully implemented concept Summary: 5 Stars
As a first-time Harmony owner, I am amazed at how easily and seamlessly I was able to configure a relatively complicated AV system with the Model 550.
Following the directions in the package, I was quickly able to install the software in Mac OS X, then use it to access the online database and begin to configure the system. Even my relatively obscure, tweaky CEC CD player was listed, and also the IR4PS3 infrared remote solution for my Play Station 3 BD player. However, my new Vecteur integrated amp wasn't there, and this prompted a call to tech support.
The Level 1 tech instructed me to finish the initial download to the 550, test it out, then call back to get a Level 2 tech to get the Vecteur settings working properly. I had to spend about 15 minutes on hold on the call back, but once I got through, the L2 tech patiently and competently walked my through a trial and error process to get everything working perfectly. (He even found a configuration for my Vecteur that someone else had come up with, and lo and behold, it worked, programmed in a way that is superior to the manufacturer's own remote!)
I couldn't be happier with this setup. The Activities paradigm is absolutely brilliant, instantly performing multiple complex configurations in response to simple commands (Watch TV, Play DVD, Listen to CDs, etc.). I have a Samsung LCD TV but have experienced none of the problems others have described, nor did I have issues with use of the software, either locally or on the web. Perhaps these are things that Logitech has addressed over time. The buttons are a bit small, but well laid out, and I find this a minor tradeoff against the bonus of a smaller, more convenient and comfortable remote size. The viewing angle on the LCD screen could be wider, but this is also a minor issue for me. At the current price, this remote, which affords access to the excellent Harmony online system, is an incredible bargain!
