Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote

Digital camera Review: An exercise in frustration
Summary: 1 Stars

I am normally very patient and I don't get frustrated easily. But this Universal Remote has tested my ability to remain calm like no other piece of equipment I have ever had. And I've dealt with a lot of them.
Hooking it up to the basic online setup process was no problem. Entering the proper model numbers for the various devices I wanted to control was also fairly simple. But then the fun started. If I pushed the button for "Watch TV" the remote always wanted to start up my TV, cable box and...my video recorder. I could not find a way to dissuade it from starting the recorder until I finally simply dropped the recorder from the list of devices to control.
Next, I kept getting the message "None of your devices can change channels". What? How about the Cable Box I had just entered? Or the TV itself? But there was no arguing with this smart remote, it just kept blithely repeating its message until I gave up in frustration and called the Logitech Support Center. After hanging on for about ten minutes, I was informed that someone would be with me shortly. Of course, that never happened. After waiting another five minutes, the connection was broken and I stood there ready to throw the phone and the Harmony out the window.

Digital camera Review: Another solid Logitech product!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just got my new Harmony 670 today, and set it up immediately. I was a little concerned with how difficult it would be to get this thing set-up when I ordered it. BUT...the CD-ROM and instruction manual couldn't be simpler. Kudos to Logitech for their obvious attention to usability. Set-up was truly a breeze. I just replaced 4 remotes with this thing: Samsung HDTV, Sony Digital Receiver, Sony DVD, and Motorola Digital Cable/DVR. Highly recommended! I own a couple of Logitech wireless optical mice also...never had a problem with any Logitech product.

Digital camera Review: As good as can be expected
Summary: 5 Stars

It is amazing what some reviewers can find to whine about. This remote does as advertised but it has to be set up correctly. To start with you will have to go online and create an account so that after setup your settings will be saved. The software that you must install on your computer will guide you through setup for all activities that you have devices for. Once you have setup your activities you will download them to the remote via a supplied usb cable. If you want to watch TV you press the watch TV button. This will turn on the TV, change the TV to the correct input if you were watching a movie the last time you used it, turn on the satellite receiver if you have one, turn on the AV receiver also changing it to the correct input. If you want to watch a movie and you are currently watching TV, press the watch movie button and it will turn off the satellite receiver, turn on the DVD player, and change the inputs on both the TV and the AV receiver to the proper one. You must however give the remote enough time to send out all the signals to each device. If you get in a hurry and the remote doesn't switch everything correctly, there is a help button on the remote that takes you by the hand and asks you a series of questions that will rectify the problem. The buttons feel solid and have a crisp feel to them when used. The only caveat is if you are recording on the dvr or have backed up the program and are not watching live TV when you press the off button it will not shut the dvr down. That is not the remotes fault just a function of the dvr. When you turn everything back on if the dvr was on the power toggle will turn it off. Just hit help and the problem will be taken care of or you can press device and turn the dvr back on from the dvr onscreen menu. For the price on Amazon this is a great remote. There are better remotes out there if you want to pay the price but this remote performs pretty well for the average setup.

Digital camera Review: As good as expected, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

It's really an impressive system with web-based programmability, activity-based interface and virtually unlimited IR library. And the 670 finally provides the DVR buttons that were never quite right on the other models. But the programming software really needs a new rev. They're so fanatic on "wizard-ry" that you can't navigating to a particular setting without going through so many steps you lose your place. Also, the mini-USB jack on mine broke, but they're sending me an advance replacement (hopefully) so I can't complain too much about a little manufacturing flaw.

Digital camera Review: Awesome
Summary: 4 Stars

I am so glad I purchased this remote. I was so sick of my husband having 6 remotes that each only could be used for one or two functions. This remote can turn on your receiver, cable box, TV, and put the TV on the correct input all with one click of a button. Awesome. We've tried other universal remotes that proved to not be so universal. But this one really is. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because it can't be used to control the PS3. But I don't care about that. Good-bye excess remotes and hello Logitech Harmony 670! It was a Christmas gift for my husband but it's turned out to be a Christmas gift for me too. :-)
