Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal RemoteDigital camera Review: Best remote I've used! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the most expensive universal remote I've ever used, but it's by far the most useful remote I've ever used. I feel it's well worth the cost. It controls all the devices that I need to control including my 10+ year old TV and receiver and my brand new Fios TV box. The activity buttons make it very easy to get the right components turned on and set to the right inputs with a single button press.
The software used to configure the remote is the weakest part of the system. It's a messy, bloated hybrid of a local application and a web site. If I was going to ask for any improvements on this product, it would be to make the software experience meet the same high standards as the hardware. In the end, the software does get the remote programmed and you only have to deal with it when you want to change the configuration of your remote.
Digital camera Review: Best remotes got better Summary: 4 Stars
Harmony wrote the book on IP programmed remotes.
This unit gives you most of the power of that system, at a very reasonable price.
Digital camera Review: Best universal remote I've ever owned Summary: 4 Stars
I've said goodbye to the 3 remotes sitting on my coffee table and replaced them with one. Turning my TV/AV receiver is now one click, not 2. And my mother-in-law no longer requires written instructions on how to operate the TV when she house-sits.
The fact that this remote is programmable via PC is brilliant. It makes the process much easier and robust. I was up and running in 15 minutes. Adjustments (customizing button functions) are quick and easy.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there seems to be a bug where buttons 1 & 2 (of the 6 generic buttons) are not actually programmable. I'm still searching the web on this, but I really have no need for them. My wife and I have been using the remote for about a month now. I wanted to give it some time before writing this review.
Pros:
Easily programmable, including "macros" (multiple steps with a single button click).
Supports Tivo
No "training" required, as is usually necessary with universal remotes. Instead, Harmony has a massive online database of components. Just enter the correct code and you have functionality.
Any button can be modified and then uploaded to the remote. It's a simple as choosing from a dropdown of possible functions.
One remote. Just click "Watch TV" or "Watch DVD" and you're up and running.
Design is comfortable and ergonomic.
Cons:
The bug in the generic buttons, as mentioned earlier. There's likely an update for this - I just have to find it.
The Play/Pause/Skip buttons are small and close together. Not as convenient as the Tivo remote, but a reasonable trade-off for a comfortable remote.
Digital camera Review: Better Than Expected Summary: 5 Stars
OK - a friend of mine gave me the pitch on this remote and I was sold. I when out and picked one up and had it all programmed in no time. This thing rocks. Finally someone fulfills the promise of a "universal remote". When my mother-in-law would house-sit, I would leave her detailed instructions on how to watch a DVD (turn on TV, press "input" button until AV3, switch remotes, turn on DVD player...). With this thing it's simply "Press 'Watch movie' button). Tah dah. It does everything I've always wanted a Universal Remote to do... plus some extras as well. Can't recommend it strongly enough. One-button on and one-button off! So cool!
Digital camera Review: Beyond useful and incredibly easy Summary: 5 Stars
After reading many reviews on this and other sites, I was prepared to spend hours setting up the remote to work with our varied devices. I was especially wary because we use a projector instead of a regular TV.
But it only took about twelve minutes to configure the device. The guided software setup is fantastic, and the remote itself feels great in my hand. Well done, Logitech.
