Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote

Digital camera Review: Excellent Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned several universal remotes and this one is among the very best. It is truly universal - it controls all my devices as if I was holding all of my remotes at the same time. Better yet, it works better than the remotes that came with my DVD player, my HD TV, and my receiver.

It features simple installation/configuration instructions through the USB connection with my computer -- it couldn't be easier to set up.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase - it's a fantastic product.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Remote! The "soft" buttons are extremely customizable.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very useful remote. It can learn any IR code as long as you have a remote to teach it with (i.e. the original remote). The built in LCD screen is very useful because you can use customized text for all functions which allows the remote to be very personalized. Using the software that is packaged with the remote, it syncs to your computer using USB and uploads/downloads any new commands you have programmed into it. The only downside to the remote (one that you will find with ALL universal remotes) is that the device profiles that can be downloaded for it are not very customized and don't include many advanced functions, so it will take several hours work to get the remote in a perfectly customized state. I definitely recommend this remote whether or not you own an Xbox 360. The extra Xbox specific buttons as well as ALL of the "hard" buttons can also be programmed to control whatever you'd like. All in all, this is a near-perfect remote, I just wish it had Bluetooth to communicate with the PlayStation 3 :(.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Universal Remote

If you are controlling multiple components this is a MUST have. The system I am controling with my Harmony 360 consists of the following: TV, Sattellite Tuner, DVD/CD, AV Reciever and Xbox 360.

I previously tried the Radio Shack Kameleon universal remote. Let me say their is NO comparison. The Logitech Harmony 360 remote took the Kameleon behind the 'wood shed' and kicked it's proverbial butt!!!

The Harmony was very easy to program. Just have a list of the components you plan on controling with the remote along with their Manufacturer and Model information. The setup software easily walks you through the process.

The 'Activities' is the best part about this remote. Via the setup software you can define activities such as, 'Watch TV' or 'Watch DVD' and you answer a series of questions about which equipment is needed for the activity and what the settings on the equipment must be at for the activity.

Once you've completed entering the component information and defining your activities the end configuration is downloaded to your remote via a USB cable. Slick.

The Harmony maybe took 30 minutes to an hour max to gather the information I needed and program the remote and test it. I literally probably spent a minimum of 4 hours programming that Kameleon and it still was very cumbersome to use. My wife couldn't use it and most of the time it was just simpler to return to using the 4 original manufacturer remotes! Since getting the Harmony I have not touched those manufacture remotes, not even once and my wife can use the system without help.

The bottom line is, this remote is a great purchase if you have a typical AV system in today's homes (tv, dvd, stereo). Even with a near $100 price tag you won't be disappointed.

Enjoy! I know you will.

Digital camera Review: Excellent product

I was in serious need of a remote that could handle all of my electronics: TV, Xbox 360, Surround system, Satellite and finally HD tuner.
This remote works flawlessly.

Pro's: You can tweak the time between commands. i.e. say i want to watch satellite. i need the tv, satellite and surround sound system on. not only that, they have to be in a certain setting. the tv has to be in input 1 and the surround has to be in satellite. well with this remote, you can program the time in between and when commands are sent. sometimes my tv needs some time after power up before it can accept commands like volume or changing channels, its about 3 seconds. so, i programmed the remote to turn the tv on first, then the satellite, then the surround, wait 2 seconds, then tell the tv to get to input 1 and tell the surround to go to satellite input. same idea goes for my other components.
You have options to directly control a single component, change the soft key functions, learn commands and the best is you can get rid of the counter-productive remote assistant. whats best is the help button. on the few occasions where after pressing a command like say play xbox 360 and everything else turned on except the 360, you can just press help and it cycles through the main commands over. and even if then it doesnt turn on, you just click "no" when it asks if that fixed the problem and it will go through the basics asking you what didnt turn on.
another handy feature is if you leave the remote still and even as much as tap the table it is on, it'll glow so you can see it.
also, everything is saved on the computer. so if for some reason the remote goes dead and you lose everything on there, you just plug it right into the computer and reload.

Cons: initial setup is tedious, very tedious.
when its dark and you press the glow button, you cant tell the difference between which colors are which with the red, blue, yellow and green buttons.
Just about all programming must be done on a computer and updating a single command takes several minutes.

Overall, i am very satisfied with this remote, i would give the remote two 5 stars, but i would have to say setup is very annoying. it took me several days to get it working the way i wanted. but once i did, i did not have to return to the computer.

Digital camera Review: Excellent remote for all your components
Summary: 4 Stars

The logitech harmony xbox 360 remote was very easy to configure using its included Logitech software CD. Their online database was also able to list my 13 yr old Sony 5.1 pro-logic receiver which I thought was pretty cool. This remote controls every home theatre component which I use. A few items which the remote is slightly annoying. One, when you set it to turn on a component, you need to keep the remote pointed for a few seconds for everything to turn correctly. If you dont, it may not turn on certain devices, but you can just press the help button and it will fix it for you. Two, sometimes the buttons are hard to press. You have to press down straight otherwise, nothing happens. What I like about this remote is that it works with my XBOX 360. Also, while navigating on my VCR menu to set the timer, the navigation is a bit slow. Even with these little annoyances, I still rate this item as 4/5 because its awesome.
