Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote

Digital camera Review: Top notch
Summary: 5 Stars

Now this is what it is all about finally someone makes a remote that works.

It's love.

Digital camera Review: great product
Summary: 4 Stars

This remote is pretty awesome for controlling your entire A/V system with just one click. The display on the remote and it's ability to import any device is really convenient and well worth the functionality over any normal universal remote.

The biggest quirk with the whole system is if you manually turn something on or off, the remote will be confused when you try to initiate or turn off an activity. Other than that, everything works flawlessly and the on-board help system is always adequate enough to get everything working properly incase something does get mixed up.

Well worth the investment if you have a lot of A/V equipment and a 360.

Digital camera Review: Great TV Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

This remote is great and it was easy to setup. You install the software, plug in the remote to your computer, and tell it what devices you own. It takes about 10 minutes to setup and then you can control all of your devices with one remote.

If you have an XBox 360 and a Netflix account, this remote is a must. It lets you easily boot up your 360 and automatically switches to the correct input on the TV all with a single click. Once you have the 360 booted you can easily navigate to the Netflix and watch your instant queue movies without ever needing to use a control or another remote. I also control a DVD/VCR combo with this remote and it works like a charm.

I was a little concerned after reading a few reviews where people said the remote wouldn't work for them. You MUST setup the remote first, this remote will not work out of the box. It takes 10-15 minutes at most to setup and works with literally thousands of devices.

If you are concerned it might not work with all your devices Logitech has a compatibility checker that you can use before you purchase the remote [...]

Digital camera Review: Xbox 360 Remote - Fantastic
Summary: 5 Stars

My 2nd harmony remote. Specifically, i like the integration with the xbox 360.
Now the xbox has become a piece of my entertainment system - using it as a media center, ff / rwd, pause, etc are much easier than using the xbox controller.

The additional 4 buttons (X,Y,A,B) are handy. In addition to working with the xbox, i programmed them to functions on my dvr.

Digital camera Review: Overall, a Very Nice Solution
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first universal remote control. I reviewed both the Logitech Harmony remote controls and the Phillips Pronto remote controls. I found that the Phillips were very feature rich and complete customization over everything that you need or want. The Logitechs were very compartmentalized for what you could and could not customize (or more appropriately, configure, since you can only configure buttons, but not customize them).

However, I didn't have a complicated home entertainment system. I have a TV, Tivo HD, XBox 360, and a receiver. The activities for the Logitech were extremely easy to setup and very straight forward. The help feature was really helpful as well for when specific devices do not work as expected.

So, here was my experience when I was setting it up. First of all, setting up the devices were a little more work than I expected. For each device, it asked for the remote control to be pointed to the Logitech so that it could "learn" four of the buttons. Now then, this confused me because during the software setup, it asked me for which devices I had and already had the appropriate corresponding remote controls. So I was naturally confused why I still needed to point the two remote controls towards each other. Then, the real fun started. I went though the software setup and started fine-tuning the buttons. The software does a prett good job of recommending which buttons on the Logitech should be mapped to the buttons to the individual device remote control. However, some of what I considered natural button maps were not there, such as the Guide and Live TV buttons were not mapped from the Tivo to the Logitech. Instead, they were soft buttons on the LCD display. Now, here's where I got confused. I setup the button map for the device configuration, but I didn't see m setup when I downloaded the configuration to the remote. What I found out was that the button maps need to be configured individually from the device setup and the activity setup. Activities may have button setups from multiple devices, where as the device setup are specific for that device. So, for certain situations, you could get confused between the which button does what between devices and activities.

Now, here's one other observation about the Logitech Harmony 360 remote control. I like the feel and grip of the remote itself. Most of the buttons are easy to use two, however, I don't like the "hard clicks" of the volume, channel, and directional buttons. I like the feel of the other buttons, but the hard clicks of these buttons are a little awkward (or more appropriately, inconsistent with the rest of the remote control).

So, with all this said, why did I rate this a 4 out of 5? Well, this was my experience setting it up. After it was setup, it's been easy to use and makes it easier for me to switch between what I want to do without juggling between 4 remote controls. It's so easy to use that I found myself doing some fun things with it. One for example was setting up my baby monitor with the TV so that I have a specific activity to watch my little on in her crib.

It's very good at what it was meant to do, without being too complicated. For the price of this remote, you can't beat it.
