Digital camera reviews of Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote

Digital camera Review: Compatibility issues with components, be careful!
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought this remote from Best Buy for [...] on 2/2/09, which is apparently a rip-off after I saw it as cheap as [...] shipped from a no-name internet store, and just over [...] from good old Amazon. Now I am taking it back after a fruitless 2 hours of frustration. I purchased this item because my stereo's remote had broken after years of faithful service, and since I run my TV and Xbox sound output through the stereo, I was stuck walking up to adjust the volume and switch inputs. It was like the late 80's all over again, sans the acid-washed jeans. I figured this would be a good time to consolidate my various remotes and I had a [...] gift card left over from the holidays, so off to Best Buy I went.

Out of my TV, mini stereo, Comcast set-top box, and Xbox 360, the ONLY item that worked correctly after setting the remote up was the Xbox 360. I thought the setup would be simple, since this product seems to be marketed at people who may not be technologically inclined. (The main selling feature is one-touch activities like "Watch TV" and "Play Xbox".) Indeed, you just install the software from a CD on your computer, then plug in the remote through an included mini-USB cable, and it walks you through with very straightforward menus, step-by-step.

I was able to select my four controlled items as follows, down to the exact model codes: Sceptre X32BV-Naga (TV), Comcast DCH3200 (cable box), Philips Magnavox FW361C (stereo system), and of course the Xbox 360. It then walks you through the setup for "activities" such as "Watch TV", "Watch a DVD", "Listen to CD", "Play Xbox", etc. You tell the software if you want the TV or the stereo to control the volume, if you change TV channels on the TV or the cable box, if you play DVDs in your Xbox or in your stereo system, and so on. This is a great setup menu, and if you know how your system is hooked up, you should be able to go through everything in 10 minutes or less, no exaggeration.

The trouble for me came when I was told to test the remote. The LCD screen on the remote asks you to pick an activity to test, so I picked "Watch TV". The TV turned on, but the Comcast box and the mini-stereo stayed off. (The IR ports were all unblocked.) The remote's screen gives a weak attempt at troubleshooting ("Is the TV on?"), but it COMPLETELY FAILED to turn on the mini-stereo. Not only that, but it turns out that it has no idea how to properly switch inputs on the TV, a task which is used in almost every activity. Out of the 10 or so inputs that my TV has, it couldn't match any of them, as if the model number I had entered was incorrect. It's not like I bought an off-brand TV from a back alley shop in Hong Kong, either; it's from Costco. I had the exact same problem with my stereo: none of the inputs would switch correctly, but at least the volume worked like it was supposed to. It wouldn't even turn the stereo on and off.

The overall concept is great, and the setup menus are fantastic. Why can't they get the proper codes to match up to the model numbers? Overall, I am VERY disappointed in this remote. I just hope I don't have much trouble trying to return it to Best Buy.

Digital camera Review: Controls everythign i need but not as 'smart' as i hoped...

i love the remote because it controls my DVR/TV/Reciever/X360 perfectly but... If turn off a device manually with out using the controller or swap inputs on the TV it doesn' always come backup after everythign is turned off.

Digital camera Review: Couldn't be much better!
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't be happier with this remote. It was easy to progam (using the manufacturer's website nd an included USB cable) and it also learns any other miscellaneous functions you might need to transfer from your old remotes.

I have tried other universal remotes, but they never did the trick....there was always a function or two I couldn't get to work correctly.

As for the Xbox 360 functions, it is preprogramed when you purchase the remote. It makes streaming music from your PC easy as you can navigate the dashboard on the Xbox 360 system easily using the provided directional pad and A, B, X and Y buttons.

I paid about $129, but I have seen it in other locations for about $100, so shop around.

It is definitely worth the price.

Digital camera Review: Customer Service is A+ so is the support and remote
Summary: 5 Stars

there was a price mistake at amazon last year. they had the xbox 360 logitech harmony remote (a great remote if you have alot of devices including an xbox) for $49.99 shipped. I dropped it numerous times and the bottom half of the screen doesn't display anymore. I called up tech support and they said throw it away and they are sending me a brand new one in 7-10 business days

unfortunately they are deactivating it and the programming is all web based so the old remote is basically junk because you cant program it anymore. But i got me a brand new remote coming from DHL (also note shipping to me is free)

I have to say logitech is the first customer service department i have ever spoke to that I actually didnt have a problem with and I even had he laughing at my crappy jokes.

so in conclusion logitech harmony remotes get a A+ CS rating from me

I'm not big on writing reviews but I felt the need to pass on the good word.

The Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote is extremely useful. I have a 23 inch Samsung HDTV, X-Box 360, HD DVR Cable box, and a Sony DVD player. It works for all of them & can work for so much more items. It is a simple setup, just put the CD into the computer, follow the instructions & connect your remote through a USB port. Once connected, you will need to know 3 easy things about your devices for setup. The kind of device (TV, DVD player, Radio, etc.), Manufacturer (Sony, Samsung, Sharp, etc.) and the model number which can be found on the product or if not, just Google it.
While setting up, you can change the name of your device(s) so it reads as such on the display. For example, my TV use to show a boring "TV" but I changed it to read "HDTV". Fancy I know... For my cable, I have no problem pausing, rewinding or recording live television. It works just fine. Now instead of having four or five remotes, I have just one. It is easy to fall in love with. My only issue with it is the fact that the number pad is extremely small & all the way on the bottom of the remote. It is as if Logitech was busy putting so much stuff in the remote that they forgot to put the numbers in it until the last minute, which made for a tight squeeze. The remote runs off 4AAA batteries which are included.

Lastly, my Samsung Blu Ray/HD DVD Combo player arrived today. I wasn't sure if the remote would work for it because it is brand new but it DID! Once again, adding the device was extremely easy & removing my old Sony DVD player was easy too. I definitely recommend this product.
