Digital camera reviews of Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2)Digital camera Review: Broke after 2 months - Mac OS X Tiger Summary: 1 Stars
After the most recent Tiger security update (late December 2007), this trackball quit working for me. There are no Mac drivers apparently, so the problem can't be fixed. Logitech support does not actually support anything, according to the hoards of angry users there, so the prudent Mac user would buy from another vendor.
Digital camera Review: Buy it! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently started working at a new job, and my computer had one of these. It took some getting used to, but now I can hardly stand to use a regular mouse. I just bought one for my home computer. I do a lot of work in Photoshop and Pagemaker, and find it much easier to do precision work with this style than with a regular mouse. Like someone else mentioned, it's a little annoying to not have the scroll thing, but I haven't really noticed it all that much. If anything, buy it for the amusement of watching other people try to use your mouse!
Digital camera Review: Can't scroll in Firefox or Thunderbird! Summary: 3 Stars
This is a really great trackball if you don't mind giving up the ability to scroll in both Firefox and Thunderbird. It seems that Firefox/Thunderbird developers don't want to add platform dependent (Windows) features to support the odd way Logitech chose to implement the scroll with this trackball (hold down both buttons, and the ball becomes the scroll wheel). It also seems Logithech does not care to fix this with a new driver. In fact, the last driver release for this device was in 2004.
In all programs besides Firefox and Thunderbird, however, this trackball works great! It is very comfortable and has a nice, heavy trackball that moves very smoothly. I also like the two extra small buttons that work as page up/down buttons (you can assign these buttons to other functions, too).
The only reason for the 3 star rating is the incompatibility with Mozilla products. Since I use these programs quite a bit, it has become a serious issue with me. If Logitech would just release a new driver that works with these products, as IBM did with their Thinkpad mouse driver, life would be good.
Digital camera Review: Configuration is wierd Summary: 2 Stars
Just don't like the layout. Very hard to get used to the buttons since they're so small. Really got used to the microsoft trackball explorer and since they stopped making them I guess I'm stuck with this. It's about the closest I can find to it.
Digital camera Review: Cool but weird Summary: 4 Stars
The big ball is a good bonus, but I don't think the design is optimal. The weird shape puts the right click button below resting position. Rolling with a forefinger and clicking with a thumb is counterintuitive. After three days into it and still haven't reached the speed that I could traverse with my 10 year old Marble trackman.
