Digital camera reviews of Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2)

Digital camera Review: A whole new computing experience
Summary: 5 Stars

Once you use the Logitech Marble Mouse, you'll never want to go back. The feel is unbelievably smooth, the control graceful and responsive. With a little flick of my finger I'm sailing across the desktop, popping open menus, and zipping through webpages. If you have any doubts about whether a trackball is for you, put them aside and try the Logitech Marble Mouse NOW. I assure you it'll blow you away and make you want to give your sorry old mouse to Goodwill. I've been using computers for years and years and never before has the simple act of using an input device been so much of a pleasure. I LOVE IT!

Digital camera Review: After Nine Years It Won't Die
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used my Logitech Marble Mouse daily for nine years and it still works as well as the day I bought it, and that includes the cord (no fraying or cracking). That's heavy all day use at work five days a week and moderate use on weekends (I work entirely from my home office). I've never suffered fatigue or any carpal tunnel problems. When I got my second computer I got one for it too, and my family all love it. Very highly recommended.

Digital camera Review: Almost perfect. Still beats by Kensington Expert mouse, except the price :-)
Summary: 4 Stars

Let me give you some background before you read my review.
I'm in my 30's. I use computer 8+ hours a day and start developing RSI symptoms.

I have tried / owned the following trackballs

Logitech TrackMan Marble FX Trackball
Logitech Optical Marble Mouse
Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical
Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman
Original 3 buttons Kensington Expert Mouse
Kensington Expert Mouse Pro

The Logitech Optical Marble Mouse rated among the top of the list.

Pros:
Very affordable (I have multiple computers so it helps that I can purchase a few of these without breaking the bank)
Good build quality
Very smooth trackball motion
Programmable buttons
Can be used either right or left handed
Optical

Cons:
Smaller trackball than the Kensington mouse.
No scroll wheel
The 3rd and 4th buttons are too small.

This is one of the few trackballs that can be used either left or right handed. This helps (although I'm right handed) because sometimes I like to switch to use the trackball with my left hand to reduce the stress on my right hand.

The left / right click buttons are large (unlike the more expensive Cordless Optical Trackman) so it doesn't require conscience effort to locate them. This is huge considering how often you use the left click button. However, given the same argument the 3rd and 4th buttons are not very usable.

One thing I missed is a scroll wheel, considered that web browsing contributes a major portion of my time while using the computer.

Lastly, I wished there are more programmable buttons on this trackman. I already used up the extra buttons for drag lock (a must) and middle click (for X-windows applications) and I could use more for things like forward, backward, copy, paste, etc.

All in all, if Logitech puts a huge trackball, a scroll wheel and more buttons on this product I'd gladly pay a lot more money for it, and don't have to miss the Kensington expert mouse again.

Digital camera Review: An excellent mouse, great for Carpal Tunnel sufferers.
Summary: 4 Stars

A mouse might seem like a trivial thing but if you've ever noticed that twinge of numbness or prickly feeling in your fingertips of your mouse hand, you know it's not trivial at all.

No mouse I know of, save some expensive and innovative ergonomic mice, can truly protect every user from Carpal Tunnel or even simple (and more common I suspect) muscle overuse. But this mouse does a good job of helping reduce the strain on your mouse hand.

I've used several trackballs and this mouse has remained the most fluid throughout its life (mine is a few years old now). In particular, I like the two smaller buttons by the left and right mouse buttons which can be used to move forward and backwards in internet explorer or firefox. And if you actually maintain good posture in your wrist, the ergonomic shape of this mouse is very helpful.

I almost gave this mouse 5 stars but opted for 4 to leave room for improvement in the world of mice. One thing this mouse does lack is a scroll wheel which some programs make use of (e.g. Homeworld 2). But even still, this is a great mouse.

Digital camera Review: As good as a three dollar trackball mouse, but it's a trackball.
Summary: 4 Stars

It's a trackball mouse.

Lacks a scroll-wheel or middle button!

All the buttons are placed for the thumb, but not a problem if you born with a 'mutant thumb' instead of a little finger!
