Digital camera reviews of Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2)

Digital camera Review: Bad design, unnecessary software - no thanks
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought the Logitech Marble Mouse in the hopes of alleviating the pain in my arthritic hand caused by constantly gripping and moving a mouse. While I liked the reasonable price and the convenience of the trackball, the mouse itself is so poorly designed that I gave up on it after 4 days. The base is HUGE - in order to reach the trackball, I had to hold my hand and arm at an odd angle which put a lot of stress on my shoulder. This mouse was obviously designed for a man's hand...it's WAY too large for the average woman, and the weirdly elongated base prevented me from using a wrist support. Even with the (very small) non-skid patches on the bottom this mouse kept shifting, and I'd have to haul it back into position every few minutes.

I'd also like to know why Logitech can't seem to design a mouse that doesn't require extra software. Many companies offer Plug-and-Play mice, even of the trackball variety, but Logitech's products always need separate software that comes bundled with all sorts of extra nonsense.

I was horribly disappointed in this mouse, and none of Logitech's other offerings look any better. I doubt I'll be buying Logitech again.

Digital camera Review: Began to fail after 24 hours
Summary: 1 Stars

Day 1: Great.
Day 2: why is the cursor drifting across the screen?
Day 3: Why is the cursor JUMPING across the screen?
Day 4: Motion of cursor is wildly unpredictable.
Day 5: Returned to Amazon.

Digital camera Review: Best "mouse" you'll ever buy.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a long time (since these were originally introduced in the 1990s) user of the Marble Mouse and hands-down, it beats any mouse or trackball I've ever used.

The fingertip control means no need to move the mouse or your wrist, cutting down on the risk of repetitive motion injuries and saving desktop space (important if you use a desk like mine that has next to no space for a mouse). Action is smooth and the buttons hold up for years--I replace mine on average of around 5 years or so (this will be my 3rd). Cleaning out the socket is easier than a standard mouse as you have full access to all the hardpoints and electronic eye inside, ensuring you get every bit of dirt out when it comes time to clean it.

While I'm not a heavy-duty gamer, I have used this a lot with a wide variety of games and in fact find it wholly invaluable for 1st-person shooters (currently playing Fable: TLC and the smooth movement and lack of need to pick it up and move it back makes fight sequences much smoother). If there's one complaint it's that there is no mousewheel function (which some games make use of) nor any 3rd mouse button; but these are relatively minor complaints for all it's good points.

The two added navigation buttons, to be honest, I almost never use so I can't comment on them. I typically use this without the installed Logitech software; I did at one point but the added features did little for me, so I mostly use it as a standard PS/2 mouse.

All in all, you can't go wrong with this one, and I highly recommend it for casual, business and gamer uses alike.

Digital camera Review: Best Left-Hand Trackball!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is the best left-hand trackball hands-down. I have used it for several years. Have been on the lookout for replacement, but nothing comes close. Others do not match in optical quality or smooth roll or are just too bulky.

Pros:
- Plug and use. Software is usable but not really worth the trouble
- Fits nicely in left or right hand

Cons:
- No scroll wheel. Wish it had a scroll wheel between ball and buttons.
- IMHO the 2 Little buttons are useless. Liked earlier version better.

Digital camera Review: Best Mouse Since Mickey
Summary: 5 Stars

I have tried several types of mice over the years and this is by far the best. Zooming back and forth across the screen is a breeze and the back/forward buttons are perfectly situated for surfing. The first one I bought over 7 years ago is still going strong with no problems and I haven't had one issue with the other 4 I own. If all tech products were designed and built like the Marble Mouse, a lot of us IT workers would be out of a job.
