Digital camera reviews of Logitech Optical Notebook Mouse Plus (USB)

Digital camera Review: Excellent, and inexpensive
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this after returning the Apple Magic Mouse, which I found clunky and hard work to use. This little guy is effortless and quiet. The cable is very light and not noticed, so the wireless thing doesn't impress me. I'm getting another one of these for the computer in my office.

Digital camera Review: Exceptional mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second purchase in 3 years because the first one gave out due to USB-plug failure, as it is expected of tech products which experience heavy use. Despite this, it is quite durable, does not require changing batteries every two weeks, and has a cord management system that makes sense, compared to other mice which have awkward retractable cords.

It's especially good when you have a sub-15" notebook computer, like a MacBook. Lots of people make the mistake of investing in giant mice to drive a cursor on a 12-14" screens.

I would recommend it to anyone who needs a corded laptop mouse.

Digital camera Review: Fabulous Little Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband bought me a wonderful Netbook for Christmas - which I just love love love. However I am a long time desktop system user and long ago decided that track pads and me have no place together in the same room. My head says "I know how to do this" but my fingers apparently are not on the same page, leaving me to battle through page after page of unintended opened pages or links, before getting to the pages I wanted to view.

So after debating how best to solve this dilemma I starting sifting through products and reviews and stumbled on this one and now that I have it for several days I can say I am so pleased I did.

It is a small mouse - so anyone that thinks that a less than full size mouse would not work for them this may not be the mouse for you. And I have to say that I agree with other reviewers - one in particular comes to mind - that the length of the cord could be a real issue for someone with a fuller sized laptop. Another thing I noticed - which was not an issue for me but may be for other users - the wheel is a little stiff - especially when I compare it to my desktop mouse. This is definitely not a "gaming" mouse.

This is though a perfect mouse for a netbook. And I loved the fact that I literally plugged it in and I was "mousing" away. I can see that the wrap away wire feature will also be a plus since I do intend to take my netbook out with me, so not having a floating free cord is nothing but good and well thought out by the designer. I can now only hope that it is durable, which only time will tell.

Now off to shop for a netbook case and I should be set.

Digital camera Review: Failed after a few months use
Summary: 2 Stars

Had been working great. Then one day it just started behaving badly...like there was a short in the wire. Maybe it got treated roughly when I was not looking (I've got four teens). Based on other's experiences with this model, I'm willing to give it another shot.

Digital camera Review: Fantastic mouse - worked perfectly for 5 years
Summary: 4 Stars

For such an inexpensive mouse, this has been one of my favorites, and it's frankly one of the best performing mice I've owned. I'm pretty sure it's been discontinued, because I can't find it anywhere except Amazon. I purchased this mouse out of necessity in 2004 when my previous laptop mouse broke; and as a poor college student, I bought the cheapest notebook-sized optical mouse I could find. It turned out to be a great purchase and lasted me for 5 full years. Just last weekend, it started acting up by misfiring a double-click when I would only perform a single-click. If I could get it repaired, I would, just so I could keep using it -- that's how much I love this mouse.

It started misfiring last week after I packed it in the outer pocket of my laptop bag and traveled to the West Coast; the mouse must have gotten hit/bumped during transit. However, during the past 5 years, I traveled by car a LOT and brought along my laptop and this mouse with absolutely zero problems -- so don't think you can't travel with it. Perhaps it was just this mouse's time to go (it was 5 years old, after all), but the misfiring coincided with my trip, so that makes me think the problem was user-induced and that it would still be working fine had I left it at home or packed it more securely.

One great feature of this mouse is that the cord wraps around a tiny groove at the base of the mouse, and then the USB port snaps into the underside and covers the laser, protecting it during travel. This was handy in the years before retractable cords were introduced.

The optics aren't overly sensitive, nor are they sluggish, either. It won't work on every surface (doesn't work on my desk but works on spouse's), so you may need a mousepad. The buttons don't click particularly loudly, but the click is on the high-pitched side (as opposed to some larger mice, which have a noticeably lower-pitched click). The wheel is a nice grippy rubber or silicone; it doesn't turn silently, but it's on the quieter side and is definitely not as loud as the wheel on the Microsoft mouse I use at work.

The mouse feels good in your hand; it's smaller than a standard mouse but is not mircoscopic. It's is 3.5" long, 2" wide, and 1.25" tall at its highest point, which sits below your palm. It's easy to maneuver and has three slippery "pads" on the underside. The cord is short, though -- a mere 2'3", and with the mouse, it comes to about 2'7". So if your only USB ports are on the left side of your laptop and you're a right-handed mouser, you may have a problem; if your laptop has a USB port on the back, you'll be fine. Overall, I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an inexpensive, good quality, notebook-sized optical mouse.
