Digital camera reviews of Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 ( 980374-0403 )Digital camera Review: As promised Summary: 4 Stars
All the reviews I read on this product suggested that this was the best value and most comfortable. I have had the set for a month and so far the headphones have lived up to their promise. Personally, I do not like to spend a lot of these kind of items since they have a habit of breaking after a while. This ceratainly seemd to be the case from the reviews that I read of the cheaper products.
Digital camera Review: Audio Quality is fine, but they are a little uncomfortable Summary: 4 Stars
I bought 2 sets of these of these, primarily for use with Skype.
From an audio perspective, the combination of a good headset and a VoIP client blows the socks off of traditional telephony (which is limited to an 8kHz spectrum) and large TelCos should be very nervous :)
Windows XP accepted the device with no fuss on 2 different machines.
The earpieces are a little hard and I can't imagine wearing these fulltime, but for Skype calls, they're ideal. The boom mic swivels allowing you to flip the headset around depending on whether you prefer the mic on the left or right.
The clarity is great, however.
A trick for Skype users: because this device is actually also a sound card, each time you plug and unplug, Skype may switch which device it attaches to. This can be annoying, as it may lock on to the headset and divert the ringtone to the headset and not your speakers, so you may miss a call. You can work around that, however, by setting Audio Devices in the Skype Options menu on the Tools drop down.
I have set it to use my Speakers for the ringtone, but the Headset to be the Input/Output device. Remember to DISallow Skype from changing this in the future (there's a checkbox on that screen)
Now I leave the headset plugged in 24x7 and still hear the Skype "ring" on my PC Speakers.
Finally, the price. These were $15 more expensive in a large big-box electronics store. For this price, these are a no-brainer!
Digital camera Review: Audio is good, but physical construction isn't. Summary: 3 Stars
Audio Playback:
Quality seems comparable to a high quality pair of headphones.
Sound Recording:
The background-noise-canceling microphone is high quality and brings in nice clean audio. However, the headset itself (the plastic frame, mic arm, etc) will produce sounds that show up in your mic-ed audio. The headphones are both mounted in sockets that have just enough play that movements of the head or attached cord will show up in your audio recording. I had to stuff the joints with a tissue to prevent clicking noises and bumps from interfering with my sound recording.
Comfort:
As others have mentioned if you have an average->large head prepare for some discomfort, there will be fairly constant pressure on your head.
Mute Button & Volume Control:
The mute button is a little too easy to activate, I have inadvertently muted the microphone on many occasions. Volume control works fine but is a little slow to respond. Frankly an on/off switch and a volume wheel would have been better than the directional button interface.
Conclusion:
I purchased this headset for the purposes of recording screen-casts. I wouldn't recommend this headset to someone else for that purpose, especially not for $90.
Digital camera Review: Average Summary: 3 Stars
Cons:
- Ear pads easily come apart.
- If you have sensitive ears, it will be really uncomfortable after 10-20 minutes since it covers and applies a small amount of pressure on your ears. Also it's not that light.
- After using occasionaly for 1 year, one of the speakers stopped working. Logitech replaced it with a brand new one. I paid for my part of the shipment.
Pro:
- I give easily 4 stars for sound quality.
General notes:
- It's year 2007 and still there are no affordable non-bluetooth and long range headsets similar to this one out there.
Digital camera Review: Average Headset With a Design Flaw... Summary: 3 Stars
I've used this headset for over 3 years now. There are plenty of good things about it, but also plenty of bad things depending on the user. Overall it makes this headset average at best in my opinion.
** THE GOOD
- The quality of the headset is fairly good. 3 years of heavy gaming use and it is still operating good as new. In fact the headset itself looks fairly new as well. The padded ear cushions are still as fluff and soft as out of the box.
- The microphone is located on the RIGHT side and produces a fairly good quality signal
- Plug-n-Play works great! Not one problem on Windows XP SP2/SP3 or Vista
- Audio quality of the speakers are fairly good. Audio comes out crystal clear and reproduction is pretty decent quality nearly equal to that of a decent sound card
- LED indicator to let you know if you have Power (solid blue) or are Muted (Flashes)
- Adjustable headband
** THE BAD
- While the USB cable is thick and sturdy; the cable leading from the right side to the "soft touch" control is thin. While it works fine it doesn't seem sturdy enough to handle being pulled on or accidentally tugged so handle with care!
- Soft touch feature is really SOFT TOUCH. In fact, you might bump against the mute button (which happens to be 90% of the soft-touch button panel) and mute yourself without even realizing it. A simple 'beep' notifying you a button had been pressed would of been nice.
** THE UGLY
- If you wear glasses (like myself) you might have a small problem. While the earmuffs themselves are fairly comfortable they do fit "snug". This can cause them to press your ears into the branches of your glasses and lead to headaches or just discomfort.
...To remedy this problem you can either slip a cotton ball between your branch and ear. Depending on your glasses, lift the branch slightly so it isn't behind the ear. OR wear the headset loose instead of securing it to your head. (leave some play in the adjustment)
** OVERALL perhaps 3 years ago this was a good headset to own. It is a simple headset which does its job well, and outside of my concerns with the thin connecting cable from the "soft touch" to the earpiece, the headset is built to last. The audio quality is decent and the speaker quality is exceptional for the price. I do not regret my purchase one bit (back in 2007). HOWEVER, this is 2011 and there are better alternatives on the market now; especially for someone with glasses and multiple gaming systems
With that in mind... I recommend the X11 (for PC/MAC/360 owners) or the P11 (for PC/MAC/PS3 owners) Both products are by Turtle Beach and are in the same ballpark $-wise... If you want to splurge get a 21 series line. (better audio drivers)
