Digital camera reviews of Logitech QuickCam Communicate STXDigital camera Review: Good camera for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this camera to talk back and forth with my sister and mom, who live 1200 miles away. My mother already had a webcam built into her laptop, and my sister has a $15 webcam given her at Christmas.
After seeing the poor resolution of the picture on my sister's camera, I decided I needed something better than a $15 webcam. I did quite a bit of research before deciding on the Logitech.
I was very pleased with the picture quality of my videos (I can view them before sending), especially compared to what my sister sends me. Her pictures are VERY fuzzy and distorted.
I had to do a little experimenting to get rid of the "echo" and get my videos to have sound when I send them. I'm not sure I've quite figured that part out yet, but I'm sure it can be done.
I purchased my camera on Amazon for $40 and got free shipping, so I was happy with the price.
I'm quite happy with the picture quality as well.
Also, the camera has a feature where it will follow you as you move from side to side; however, you have to manually go in and enable it to do this each time--it doesn't do it automatically.
I like that it has a "privacy shield" so you can keep people from seeing you if you don't want to be seen.
I had read that the camera seems to want to focus too far away from the screen. When I set the camera on top of my computer, I could only get myself in the picture--not good when you want all the kids in there for Grandma to see!
I solved this problem by setting the camera on a shelf above the computer, a little farther away. It works perfectly that way. One nice thing about this camera is the adjustable stand--It doesn't have to be attached to the computer; it can be free-standing on any flat surface as well.
I've really liked the camera so far.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I know it's not top of the line as far as picture quality goes. I'm not interested in perfect picture, however, I just want to be able to see my relatives more than once a year!
Great camera.
Digital camera Review: Good camera for the price. Summary: 4 Stars
I use my webcam with Skype. It works excellently and I have had no trouble with it. I love the built in microphone, that was my prerequisite for buying this camera. The audio picks up very well and I am able to use the computers speakers and not have a problem with echo. I am very happy with this camera purchase.
Digital camera Review: Good for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I just wanted a basic webcam, and that's what I got for the price. The picture is good and adjust to light and dark, but the video is not smooth. It's very jerky. The sound is great though. A friend bought a Logitech 9000 for twice the cost, but his video is much more smooth.
Digital camera Review: Good for the price. Summary: 5 Stars
This camera pretty much does what you need it to. My family and I have this one and we've had no problem with it.
Digital camera Review: Good hardware, drivers before 10.5 gives blue screens Summary: 4 Stars
I'm relatively happy with that purchase, good image quality.
Make sure you get at least the 10.5.0 drivers released on 12/24/2006 as versions before that got be consistent blue screens in windows using msnm and skype.
As the other reviews, I would recommend not installing all the logitech software but just the drivers.
I also don't get anything near 30 fps, even just testing my own webcam, so I need to investigate that.
