Digital camera reviews of Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac (Black)Digital camera Review: Excellent Mac Web Cam Summary: 5 Stars
First thing is that this is new technology which works with the built in UVC drivers. I know Leopard includes them for Intel Macs, I'm not sure about earlier versions of the OS or Power PC Macs so users of older machines/software are advised to do a bit of research or even post on the Logitech forums. If you have fairly recent hardware and are running Leopard this camera gives the best picture I've ever encountered on a Mac.
I'm using it on my Mac Pro quad core. Excellent picture, as good a frame rate as the using software allows. For iChat that's about 15 fps which is enough for reasonably responsive image. Skype can be better, up to 30 fps but the cost is greater bandwidth needed for transmission. You will find that products which you might expect to work such as PhotoBooth don't or only give you about 5fps. That's because the software was written to use a built in web cam or FireWire and the UVC compliant camera isn't yet fully supported. You can take stills but not movies except with the jerky 5 fps limitation. You can use a third party little app called WebcamTweaker.app to capture movies from this camera.
Prior to this cam I was using a Logitech 9000 Pro which gave an equally good image but lacked the built in auto focus and light adjustments. It was limited to the 5 fps which this QuickCam for Mac has eliminated. We are only limited any more by applications which fail to make use of the abilities built into this cam. For me it was a five star purchase.
Digital camera Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little skeptical about these types of items, however was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to set-up. I had to setup a Skype account and we were good to go. Video performance and sound is very good. I strongly recommend the Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac if you are going to use a web cam. It is worth every penny.
Digital camera Review: Excellent Webcam for Mac Summary: 5 Stars
I looked at a good number of webcams, and read a LOT of reviews before settling on this one. In a word, it's Great! Don't confuse the older Windows model if you're looking to run it on a Mac. This model is completely compatible and is plug and play. I opened the box, plugged it in the USB port, set it on my monitor and voila! I had video. iChat and Skype recognized it immediately.
I've used it flawlessly with Skype video calls and the picture quality and audio quality are outstanding. The lens provides a wide angle shot so I don't have try to stay exactly in front of the webcam. The audio is sensitive enough that I can speak in a normal voice and be heard clearly. I've also used it on Adobe's ConnectNow webinar program doing a video conference with outstanding results.
It may be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you want a webcam that just works, like your Mac just works, this is for you.
Digital camera Review: Excellent auto-focus, good lens & microphone Summary: 4 Stars
Having read that the Vision Pro is the first webcam to include hardware autofocus and light correction - thus avoiding the no-compatible-software issues that Mac users have had to deal with when using other Logitech cameras - I gave this one a try. Overall it delivers the goods. I compared it side-by-side with the built-in webcam included with current MacBook models, and the Vision Pro compared quite favorably. The image quality was slightly sharper than the MacBook, and when an item (e.g. a text page) was held up close to the lens, the Vision Pro was able to focus in more clearly than the built-in MacBook lens. The only slight criticism I have is that the Vision Pro's image was a little more high-contrast than the MacBook image, leading to slightly over-reflective areas of skin tone under normal office lighting. Those with thinning hair, beware ...
Digital camera Review: Excellent except for price. Summary: 4 Stars
Logitech has done it again.
Excellent camera, MAC compatible, excellent quality.
My only reason for 4 out of 5 stars - Price.....
I have done reviews on the younger brother to this one...so repeating my self is not necessary. I can guarantee you a pleasant video experience w this camera... My kids use it to do simple videos on a MAC and I can say it works GREAT.
Also to be noted and to give CREDIT to Logitech - this thing works great in low light environments...it doesnt make everything dark. One bulb and you are set to go with great images..... I have done it ... I stand by it...and I love it.
Now if we could get it more affordable for the masses - we would have a 5/5 winner.
