Digital camera reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with SubwooferDigital camera Review: Acceptable for Monetary Price, but Not Recommended Summary: 3 Stars
On a budget, looking for speakers for use with MP3 players, laptop, and other media devices.
Over all, I would NOT recommend these.
We accidentally purchased these instead of Logitech Speaker System Z323 with Sub-woofer. Because of the difference in price (S220 was about $30.00 cheaper - half the cost), we decided to just keep these when they arrived...
For the record: I now wish we had just canceled the order. :P
The old Dell A425 woofer w/ 2 satellite speakers these Logitech S220 were meant to replace are much better! Even though the Dell set isn't attractive, and the left speaker doesn't work unless the the volume is at least 50%, and sometimes there is static from said speaker, the Dells are STILL better, and they're staying on our living room laptop. They are going to be refurbished, and the NEW Logitech S220 system is going into the back room where we don't often use bass.
HERE'S WHY:
- The Dell A425 set is only minutely larger than the Logitech S220, but the bass is infinitely deeper and richer with the Dell system.
- With the bass turned all the way up on the Logitech S220, it is only at ONE FIFTH of the capability of the Dell A425.
- Bass on the Logitech S220 sounds like a snare drum (booo).
- The S220 has crisper sounds, but that is likely because our Dells are old, beaten, and been through MANY household moves.
Not sure of the quality of the Logitech S220 speakers, so I can't say if they will get static or stop working entirely, like other reviewers have noticed.
For about $90 to $100 you can get a Dell A425 system.
You get what you pay for with the Logitech Speaker System Z323 with Sub-woofer.
Over all, I wouldn't recommend these, even on a tight budget.
Digital camera Review: Adequate basic speakers Summary: 3 Stars
Speakers work well for basic sound--voice and system sounds, mainly; however, I tried a classical CD, chorus and orchestra, and the speakers couldn't handle the range. Static-like interference, and the sound was broken up, couldn't listen. Volume is limited, too. My old, larger, Logitech speakers broke, and I was so used to their great quality that this poor music reproduction was a shock. I'm glad to have them, though--they're better than no sound, and for the price, less than $25., they are probably as good as one ought to expect.
Digital camera Review: Agreed - Surprisingly good for the price Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered these and currently have them playing music from my Macbook. The sound is excellent for a system of this price range. A little bit too many wires for my taste but can't complain given the performance.
Digital camera Review: All I'm saying is . . . Summary: 3 Stars
Never hire a sound engineer who tells you that these speakers compare, "at low volume," to his $1000.00 monitor speakers. That is as dishonest as it is ridiculous. Really.
That said, these speakers have no mid-range. I don't usually even notice mid-range, but now I really, really miss it. These speakers remind me of that time I saw a drunken bum inexplicably put a small kitten that he found in the alley into a 50 gallon steel drum, a solid, good steel drum over which he cooked his canned tuna and ranch-style beans the night before.
Thinking, "hmm, what's that guy doing with that kitten?" all of a sudden the drunken brute broke into a whiskey-fueld frenzy and started beating the side of the drum with a section of pipe he carried around for protection. "Marla! Marla!" he screamed as the kitten shreiked in terror and I stood fear-frozen 50 feet away, cowering behind an older model Mazda that had been booted the week before but had been there for a while. Boom-boom-boom and kitty shreiks. No mid-range.
But the speakers were just $30.00 and if you listen to crap like Taylor Swift or, you know, Lynrd Skynrd, then who cares, right? If you cared how your music sounded, then you'd care what you listened to. So, if you're a tool (or poor like the bum in my story), buy these speakers. Otherwise, do your research; do not trust popular opinion; and spend the extra money to get some good speakers.
In the end, I'm not sure what happened to the kitty, but I'm pretty sure it's deaf if not dead by now.
Digital camera Review: All but throw-away price but quality worth keeping Summary: 5 Stars
These are cheap speakers. You shouldn't expect much from them. Once you've got that solidly in mind, you'll be happy with what you do get from such a low-priced 2.1 system. That's why I gave these things 5-stars; value.
I bought them to use instead of my MacBook's lousy internal speakers when I'm sitting at my desk with an external monitor and they do the job excellently. They pale in comparison to my component system in the living room but the listening experience is more like that than it is like the macbook speakers, if that makes sense.
My only complaints are that the cord length is a bit short for what I want to do (particularly the power cord) and the power indicator LED on the wired remote is a bit too bright... but those are really minor things.
