Digital camera reviews of Logitech Squeezebox Duet Wi-Fi Internet RadioDigital camera Review: A must have Summary: 4 Stars
After some initial setup snags, mostly due to a weak cable signal on my end, I am now enjoying Pandora, internet radio and my music collection with ease through my Nuvo essentia whole home audio system. Overall setup was minimally painful. User guide could be a bit more detailed but found what I needed on the internet. If you have a whole home audio system I would highly recommend this as a source. Much less expensive than the options Nuvo has available. Was the best product for my needs when I compared this to others out there such as airport exp, casatunes, etc.
Digital camera Review: A product that promises a lot, but doesn't deliver in some very important areas... Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this product 4 months ago, and I love it... when it works.
Unfortunately I don't think that the product is ready for primetime, for the following reasons:
1/ The remote control takes a very long time to wake up. I think Logitech shold build an image of the music database on the remote. Currently, the remote is sluggish (takes 30 seconds to one minute to wake up). I assume that this is so because the remote has to connect over Wi-Fi to the computer that hosts the music folders, and this takes time (hence my suggestion for an image of the datebase on the remote).
2/ The whole setup is very sensitive to the smallest changes made in the home network. I say this because I want to give it some benefit of doubt; I could also describe the system as unstable over the long run. So far there were 3 instances when the remote/device was unable to connect to the main PC, and I did not change anything on my home network in two of these instances (I did reinstall an antivirus program today).
For this reason, I think that the Logitech solution is not conceptually sound. I think a far better design would have been to build the Logitech device on top of a NAS box that had a 4 slots for SATA drives(no 802 required to stream music). This way, the end user could have just added the music drives to the box. This solution coupled with a remote that has an image of the music database on it, might make this product work...
I believe that this approach was taken by a Korean company (see Dvico TviX HD M-7000), which was awarded the European Imaging and Sound Association award for the best Media Player)... see EISA awards on the internet.
The current design fails, and when it does so, it is very annoying.
3/ Subpar support - when the system failed to connect to my main PC the second time, I called the Logitech support, and after a few unsuccesfull attempts to solve the problem, I was told that Norton was the cause for all my problems. At that point, the rep asked me to remove Norton - as a condition for providing help further. I refused to do so (the system was working fine that same morning, and Norton has been running on my system forever (it was running before I bought the Logitech Duet)). We agreed to disagree, and I was left holding an empty bag of broken Logitech promisses.
4/ I saved the worst for last: Logitech is manipulative. After the incident listed above I went to the Logitech Duet product page, and posted a negative review... to this day (more than 45 days later), that review is not yet published. Right now I don't feel very good about Logitech as a company.
To sum it up: I am disapointed in the product, and would like to return it... I will see what Amazon will do. I think that their policy is 30 days... so it might be too late.
Stay away from the Logitech duet, it is a half baked product.
PS: I have worked in high tech in the last 10 years, and I consider myself computer literate...

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was excited to get the Logitech Squeezebox Duet Music System. Once I had it though, my excitement dimmed considerably. Here is why...
Even though Logitech asserts that the system works with OS X, I had to get a beta from customer support for Leopard. The rep warned me that "sometimes" the beta works perfectly with Leopard, and sometimes not. My luck, I got the "sometimes not."
Now that does not mean Logitech won't solve the wireless connectivity issues with Macs. It just means that so far the solutions have not worked reliably across the board. My guess is in a few weeks or months I will be able to connect wirelessly to my Mac. But what to do till then?
I "solved" it by connecting the Squeezebox to an open ethernet connector on my Apple Time Capsule MB276LL/A 802.11n 500 GB Network Backup Hard Drive, which is basically a router with a 500GB hard drive attached. The controller even senses you want to make an Ethernet connection and provides you with that option. In just a very few minutes I was up and running.
But as Hamlet said "Aye, there's the rub" because a wired connection means that the system must be tethered to the router, and all the advantages of mobility within your house or office are gone. But it works, and soon I was enjoying subscription Internet radio.
And that is where my final question arises. Even with wireless connections in an iPod, satellite radio, cable radio age, do we really need this service to pump sound into a room which may be the only one in the house without some form of digital music? My guess is that Logitech will have to make a major marketing push to differentiate itself in a marketplace filled with alternative competition.
Digital camera Review: Almost a five star! Summary: 4 Stars
I really love this thing--it is great! If you have found out about Pandora and IHeart Radio, Yahoo, etc., etc. for all the great music there is out there online, you are going to love it too! The only reason I gave it 4 vice 5 stars is that I am sure some people will have a little bit of problem setting ALL the functions up, since you have to be a little tech savvy for example with getting your own music in the system the way you want it. Do not let that issue stop you---there is a world of music out there online and this is by far about THE BEST way to access it all as long as you have a good hi-spd internet connection and wi-fi equipment, which is fairly common these days. This is one piece of electronics that I am very happy I stumbled upon on the internet at Amazon. Thank-you!
HAVE FUN AND ENJOY! And so you can trust me, I promise, I am just me in Jacksonville, FL and have no relationship with Logitech Squeezebox (in case you think I am a little too positive about this).
