Digital camera reviews of Logitech Squeezebox Duet Wi-Fi Internet RadioDigital camera Review: Better off with an XBOX 360. Summary: 2 Stars
Even if you don't play games, the xbox 360 is a much better value. Stream music and movies wirelessly through your home network. Download music and movies through rhapsody and netflix. The user interface is on your tv so it is easy to use. Just set up remote speaker systems like I did with my Bose and you are in business in any room with speakers.
Plus it plays DVDs and games, and you can chat to friends live or IM.
Digital camera Review: Blown Away Summary: 5 Stars
Having owned each of the Squeezbox's prior to the Duet, I have seen some major improvements with this 'ideal' media player. Great installation, simple to manage large libraries with security, no less. With the sale for $169, this is a no brainer. Get one, you wont regret it. And it even rock 24.96 no problem for the audioheads
Digital camera Review: Brittle Summary: 1 Stars
Once you tear your hair out setting it up it works... Until your power fails or the Internet fails. Then it's another nightmare to set up.
Also, every once in a while it loses it's brain and won't work for a day. After battling this thing for 6 months it updated it's firmware (no option to not let it). Now it won't even get past the setup screen. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Digital camera Review: Burnished technology puts great sounding music (and more) at your beck and call Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using my Duet for a week and it's been a real pleasure. Its great sound quality and ease of use have had me rediscovering music that's been lying fallow on my computer and Rhapsody account for ages. Its software and interface also give seamless, casual access to radio stations (if they are streaming over the internet) and podcasts.
Making valued experiences handier, richer, and farther-reaching--isn't that what technology is supposed to?
Like all well-designed technology, the Duet's controller adds a layer of pleasure all its own. With its responsive control wheel, sharp display, motion sensitivity, and appealing screensavers, it offers iPod/iPhone/Wii-class looks and handling--making if fun, rather than a chore, to hunt up what you'll be listening to next.
Given some customer comments about technical difficulties, I was worried after ordering. Luck was with me--I experienced no problems with setup, even on an aging Dell desktop and a very modest Toshiba laptop. In my case, The Quick Setup instructions and the setup prompts given by the controller worked without a hitch. Everything was up and running in half an hour. I've been enjoying effortless access to music ever since.
Digital camera Review: Buyer Beware! Summary: 1 Stars
The product I received would not link to my WiFi. I've never had trouble before linking to my WiFi on any other product (laptop PC, etc.... has no problems...brainless, in fact). Logitech's website boasts of ease of use: "Just plug it in and you are half way there." I guess the second half of the journey is the Himalayas because I spent two weekends trying to figure out why the piece of junk could not connect, and after sacrificing two weekends, I have given up. I read the "bad" reviews and observe its a common theme to have network connectivity problems. I am just one of the guys who could never get a link...Lucky me.
There is no way Logitech will reimburse me for my two weekends wasted, I fear trying to get a replacement unit and wasting more time.
I have opted for a refund, and go back to my CD changer. I would like to see a letter of apology from Logitech's CEO, and a check for my time.
What is frustrating, is the product is a great concept, it's just incompetently implemented. And to charge $350 for junk....LARCENY!
Is it any wonder why China/Asia is taking over the consumer electronics market?
I tried everything: calling customer support, powering down, powering up, resetting units, disconnecting everything else, and guess what...? You get to re-enter the router encryption security code using a thumb wheel for every iteration attempt...Hooray!!!!. The controller would recognize my "unique" SSID, but would not link. Yes, I did disable the firewall settings, scratched my belly and rubbed my head. I live in the sticks, too, so there is little WiFi interference.
Speaking as a design engineer of electronic products (> 20 years experience), the user interface isn't that great...I would even give it a 2 star rating,...I mean a thumb wheel for entering a WPA-Personal encryption code? Puuleease. After entering the encryption code for the n-teenth time, you do get pretty competent at it....I figure on my last iteration of trying to link, I had that process down to about 1 minute.
In reality, I really could do without the controller, and just have the computer use the WiFi to broadcast music through my house...that is enough. But you need it to use it...another strike against Logitech. Oh, well, Logitech missed the boat on that one. I will never buy anything from Logitech again. Caveat Emptor!
