Digital camera reviews of Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi Internet Radio and Wireless Music PlayerDigital camera Review: Great Little Player With Mediocre Remote Summary: 4 Stars
If you do not know what a static IP address is or how to set one up on your PC, you may have difficulty using this player with the Slimserver software required to stream music from your PC. Another potential problem is ensuring that your PC firewall -- if you're running one -- is not blocking the connection. Some users might also not understand how to update the firmware even though the instructions are very clear. Before I upgraded the firmware I was unable to use the wireless connection with the WPA encryption on my access point.
The remote control feels cheap compared to the player itself. It is not at all ergonomic and the soft-touch keys feel too soft. While the remote generally works fine, it is not comfortable to use. However, some universal remote controls may be programmable to work with the Squeezebox.
For music lovers with some technical know-how, a large and growing digital music collection, and possibly even an addiction to compatible online music services (like Pandora or Rhapsody), the one-time cost of this player may be worth it. I prefer this to alternatives like satellite radio or burning my digital music to CD because it offers more choices and control.
If you can get everything set-up properly and create a Squeezenetwork account, you have almost endless music choices. Additionally, the player can be set up as a wireless bridge to which you can hook up a personal "switch" and/or other network capable devices (like a Blu-ray player).
In summary, if you're not entirely sure you can set-up and use the player properly then do not buy it. If you can set it up and get past the cheap remote, it's a great player.
Digital camera Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I can't believe I waited so long to get this product. It works great and it's easy to set up with a wireless system. I don't have to worry about changing CDs any more because all my music is on my computer and linked to the Squeezebox. If I want to listen to Sirius Radio no problem. Same goes for Pandora and all local radio stations that are on the web. This is a great product for anybody who likes music and likes to listen to it through their stereo system. Or if you're like me through the whole house including outside.
Digital camera Review: Great device!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great device -- I've been using it for over a year with absolutely no problems. The free Slimserver software work great as well -- I set up a dedicated linux box just to run it and maintain my mp3 collection. Having a library of over 2000 CDs, this is the only way to listen to them.
It's very easy to set up, if your home or business network is setup properly. I have seen people with problems, but it was solely because they did not know how to set up and secure a home network.
Great device if you actually like to listen to music.
Digital camera Review: Great for Internet Radio Summary: 5 Stars
This product is well designed and very user friendly. I use it for internet radio, including pandora and last.fm and it works great. The squeezenetwork service that provides the listings also does a great job at providing nice music sources.
My only complaint is that the screen could be bigger. It only can display one list item at a time, so you get a little bit of a "reading through a straw" effect. A 8x6" graphical screen would be great to show a few items at once.
I have not yet tried streaming music from my computer to the squeezebox, so I cannot comment on that functionality.
Digital camera Review: Great little product!! Summary: 4 Stars
I got this to run music in my cafe from my computer and I love it. Can use my own playlist on iTunes or any of the various internet radio stations. It's so portable, that sometimes I just unplug it from my stereo at work and bring it home at the end of the day to use at home. Very simple to set up and user friendly. Excellent sound quality too!!
