Digital camera reviews of Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks (Black)Digital camera Review: Actually works well with Mac Summary: 5 Stars
Having just bought the Logitech MX Revolution mouse for my Mac
Pro, I was sort of sceptical about buying the VX Nano for my
Macbook Pro notebook.
I had some very negative issues about Mac support with the Logitech
MX. Many of the functions (including search and advanced scrolling)
would not work on the desktop.
I went ahead anyway and purchased the VX Nano for my Macbook Pro.
When it arrived, I was pleased to find that it was quite compact
and very comfortable in my hand. This didn't look anything like
the cheaply made notebook mice I had used in the past.
Though the box does indicate that this mouse is Mac OS X compliant,
one would not know it by the software provided. As is always the
case with Logitech product, the CD that is provided in the package
only includes Windows drivers. Mac users (who Logitech doesn't like)
have to go through their website to find the Logitech Control Center
installation file.
The best part of this mouse is its tiny USB receiver. What has
been claimed by Logitech is actually true -- you plug it in your
USB port and forget about it. The USB hub becomes almost invisible
after installed. The mouse runs on two "AAA" batteries.
The mouse works wonderfully on my Macbook Pro. I was actually able
to go into the Logitech Control Center and assign it specific search
functions. I press a button and GOOGLE or YAHOO search comes up. I
can also program it if I wish to bring up FINDER.
I found the mouse to be very responsive on an ordinary tabletop
taking away the need to have a mouse pad. The scroll wheel works
extremely well. A simple roll of the wheel can get you from top
to bottom of page in seconds. Also a huge plus is the fact that
this mouse automatically powers itself off when not in use.
The only thing missing here is a travel pouch. For some reason I
had thought one would be included. Despite the fact there was none,
I was able to neatly pack the mouse in my laptop bag.
I have owned a wide array of Logitech products including their
top-of-the line keyboards, webcams and mice. None of them have
worked perfectly with Mac. Logitech is just not a mac-friendly
company. This is the very first product I have bought from them
that actually works perfectly under OS X.
I highly recommend the Logitech VX Nano for anyone that wishes
to ditch their trackpad for the comfort of a mouse.
Digital camera Review: All mice should be as nice.... Summary: 5 Stars
As I was checking the 1 thru 5 stars for each category above I kept thinking "No.... 5 stars across the board is just odd", but this mouse deserves it as does Logitech. About 2 years after I'd purchased it one of the buttons developed a problem with it's click mechanism. I didn't know at the time if it was in our out of warranty, I had no paperwork, not even the receipt but the politely and quickly assisted me and with little to no ado agreed to send a replacement. I've had similar experience with other Logitech products too, fantastic support of EVERYTHING they make. This mouse specifically FEELS solid, looks good, has held up to heavy wear and has traveled cross country and back with me and still it's my faithful companion. It serves not just as my laptop mouse, but as my full time desktop mouse also. You won't be dissapointed.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
Pros: Stylish, extra buttons, micro USB receiver, side scrolling, battery indicator.
Cons: receiver stores behind battery door, mouse not the most comfortable for larger hands
I bought this to replace a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000, which I've had for several years and still works fine. I was frustrated with the lack of a battery indicator (in hardware or software). I've always been happy with Logitech input devices, so I bought this mouse.
The micro USB receiver is nice. The microsoft receiver was about 2" long, so it's nice to be rid of that. I would prefer that stowing the receiver could be done more quickly. The microsoft receiver snapped into the bottom of the mouse. This logitech receiver stows behind the battery door, adding a couple more steps to storing and retrieval. It is clear that logitech expects that the receiver stays plugged in even when the mouse isn't being used. This eats up a USB port when there usually aren't many ports on laptops. I only use my mouse when I'm at a desk and will be there for a while, or doing CAD work, so I'd rather unplug my mouse all the time. Maybe I'll learn to keep the receiver in, or maybe I'll just deal with the minor inconvenience. Either way, not a big deal.
Having the forward/back buttons is great. They are well placed and activated using the index finger (for right handers). I'm used to having these buttons by my thumb on my desktop mouse, but index finger makes more sense for a notebook mouse.
This isn't the most comfortable mouse for large hands. My old Microsoft had a higher arch to it, allowing more of my hand to rest on the mouse. This logitech has the same footprint, but is flatter. Comfort isn't bad though, for a notebook mouse. If you really need a comfortable mouse, you're probably going to have to lug around a full size desktop mouse. I haven't used a portable notebook mouse that's truly comfortable.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse is an outstanding product. It is comfortable to the touch. The feel is precise. Also, after extensive use, there is little, if any, hand fatigue. The touch to screen feel of this mouse is the most precise I have ever had the pleasure to use. I enjoyed its very small size. It's great for traveling or for everyday use.
I had just one complaint and it regarded the packaging. There was so much hard plastic, that unless I exercised considerable care, I ran the risk of cutting myself. In addition, the packaging is so formidable that it required a very sharp knife to cut away the layers of particularly hard and resistant packaging. There was so much plastic used in the packaging, that I also had some concern for its environmental aspect.
This is a very fine piece of equipment surrounded by a small mountain of potentially dangerous packaging.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect and better than anything else I tried Summary: 4 Stars
My old MS laptop mouse died so after reading reviews and 'feeling out' various mice at local stores to see how they felt in my hand, I went with the Logitech VX Nano. While my IBM laptop is primarily used as a desktop replacement, I wanted a mouse that could easily be taken along for the ride without taking up excessive briefcase space. Some of the extra functions, like the free-wheeling scroll wheel option, are frankly superfluous to me and not used with any frequency so my primary comments relate more to the ease of use and the functionality of the mouse for normal usage.
Pros:
* Works smoothly! This does not feel like a cheap mouse that will easily break like some on the market. It has a quality feel with positive tactile feedback.
* Gotta love the Nano receiver! Other than the fear that someday I might lose it, this little receiver is hardly noticeable! It fits one of the USB slots and I can easily transport the laptop with it in place without fear of knocking it loose or breaking it off.
* Not too small for the way I use a mouse. I have fairly big hands (I'm 6 ft. tall) and while the mouse is not designed to fit in the palm of my hand, it is very comfortable to use. I will say that I generally configure my mice to move faster with shorter hand movements than most people or the normal Windows default settings. So I do not need to move the mouse far to reach any destination on my screen. If you prefer a slower, longer setting for your mouse, you may find the comfort different for bigger hands, but for my use it is perfectly comfortable.
Cons:
* Occasionally the receiver does not seem to pick up button pushes even if it is picking up mouse movement or the scroll wheel. The IBM USB is on the left hand side and the mouse is on the right, often about 4 feet away. While generally this works fine, on occasion I will have to press the mouse button a couple times to get the receiver to register a command. Again, this is not a problem when moving the mouse or moving the scroll wheel, only if I push the left or right button to send a command. I can easily solve this by simply moving the mouse a bit further left (closer to the USB). And if I have the mouse entirely on the left hand side of the laptop I can be 10 feet away and it works fine. There is some 'dead zone' apparently where I have occasional interference and only on button pushes! But fairly uncommon and easily corrected by moving the mouse a bit.
* I admit to liking Logitech products. Their software occasionally leaves a bit to be desired. But I finally need to grouse about Logitech's apparent need to overly market themselves via their software. Unless you control what the software loads when you install your Logitech product, you will get unnecessary marketing hype and more media software from Logitech that, at least for me, I do not need or want. Come on, guys. You are a very well recognized brand. You make generally excellent products. Keep the software simple & effective and eliminate all the extra dross that you seem to clog things up with. Or at least make it 'opt in' by default rather than requiring the user to 'opt out' every time. There is enough junk slowing down my PC without your help, thank-you!
