Digital camera reviews of Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 300

Digital camera Review: Bought this for my HDTV. Works fine.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this exclusively for my HDTV to use with my Dell Inspiron Zino running on Windows 7. I like that it only requires 1 USB port shared by both the keyboard and the mouse. I only have 4 USB ports on the Zino, 2 at the back and 2 in front. Now both of my front ports are free. I seat around 10 to 12 feet away and I have no problem with the signal. The receiver that you plug into the USB has a couple of feet of cord so you can position it lest you encounter any interference. Mine is positioned just below the HDTV on top of the HDTV cabinet. Below the table are my Ooma, modem, DVD player and Wii.

The keyboard is very quiet and has a nice tactile feel on the keys. It is thin and nice looking. Just perfect to store under the couch (on the floor). Keyboard is said to be spill proof to a maximum of 60 ml (2 oz) of liquid, which I haven't tested for obvious reason. Both the keyboard and the mouse has a connect button at the bottom. The mouse is also quiet and very precise. It has a on/off button if you are traveling. For me, the most amazing things is the battery life which they claim to be as much as 15 months. Mouse requires 2 "AAs" and the keyboard uses 2 "AAAs".

Nuisance: I find not having an LED indicator if your are on capslock or not annoying. When my wife and I have to enter passwords, there were times when we have to figure out whether we are entering them incorrectly or just having the capslock on.

For my purpose, I am very pleased with this duo.

Digital camera Review: Buy It!!
Summary: 4 Stars

This was a great purchase for me. The keyboard and mouse perform as well as my wife's more expensive set that came with her computer. The mouse and keyboard are about 8 feet away from the receiver and it works perfectly. I didn't load the software. I just plugged it in out of the box and it worked. There are no missing letters, no drop-out when the mouse or keyboard are in a certain position. I am still using the original batteries that came with it. In a word....buy it!!!

Digital camera Review: Can't go wrong
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent bang for your buck. Product works perfectly even almost a year later with two kids banging away at it.

Digital camera Review: Couple clarifications
Summary: 4 Stars

Edit 6/16/10: after 6 months of use, still on original batteries in "good" condition. I don't bother switching off the mouse via its on/off switch on the bottom. No quality or performance issues. Good deal.

ON RANGE: Others have noted an 8" range. This isn't true: there is a setup diagram in the instructions that shows an 8" radius around the receiving unit implying anything that might interfere with the signal should be placed more than 8" from the receiver. In actual use the range seems to be between 6 and 15 feet, subject to interference from other devices. There is no indication in the included documentation about maximum range but it seems consistent with other RF keboards/mice of this type.

SROLL LOCK: Others have noted there is no scroll lock key, in fact there is; it occupies the pause/break key and is activated by means of simultaneously pressing the function key. There's even a little (albeit cryptic) scroll lock icon on the key.

SETPOINT SOFTWARE: seems particularly useful. Besides displaying momentary messages about caps lock and other functions and customizing function keys (that really works!), it provides a very useful "application selector" function. This is activated by a function key or by the default function of pressing the mouse wheel. The set point software changes your screen color, and tiles all the open application windows on your display allowing easy selection of the desired window. Upon selection this window is brought forward and all other aspects of the display resume their prior appearance. Way cool on XP machines.

MOUSE: responsive and easily adjustable with included software. The optical function is invisible (infrared?) and it has an on/off switch on the bottom. It doesn't like shiny surfaces; won't work correctly on the simulated wood grain desk I have, but that's true with most mice I've tried. It's perfectly happy on a mouse pad or other non-shiny surface.

OTHER: I came off of a moldy old microsoft desktop set (it was getting wonky telling me to change batteries all the time) I thought was pretty good, but the MK 300 surpasses the MS hardware in all aspects. Mouse and keyboard function with no perceivable lag. I like that the default for the function keys is F1-F12 (not the flaky MS defaults). The feel of the keyboard is good, noticeable tactile response but no loud click.

Recommended for typical office use. My application is on a Dell Vostro 200, Win XP (sp3) intel core 2 E6550.

Digital camera Review: Decent Keyboard and Mouse combo with limited range.
Summary: 3 Stars

The keyboard and mouse look ok, feel ok, function ok. It certainly eliminated the cords. Only one thing, it won't work beyond 3 feet of the wireless receiver. If you intend to use it right next to your computer, that's fine. However, if you intend to use it from a distance, you'd better consider other options.
