Digital camera reviews of Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker SystemDigital camera Review: A tale of great frustration that lead to great satisfaction. Summary: 4 Stars
First and fore most I just Love my decision to purchase this system. Most of the reviews you will read about how great this system sounds is spot on. I thought I would miss my old 15" sub but the sub that Logitech has included delivers with a punch. I purchase this system as a replacement to my main stereo system. Because I live in a apartment the main objective was take away the clutter. So I did not want no receivers, amps and large speakers. My first focus was on the Bose Lifestyle series but at that price range don't think so. After reading many reviews and focusing on system under $1,000 but over $500 and not finding what I was looking for. Then I remember that some of the computer speakers systems out there were pretty good but could they replace a home stereo system. Upon researching some more the product that repeatedly came up was the Logitech Z-5500. I went to a store tested them out and I knew that these were it.
My main complaint has to do with mounting the speakers to a stand. Logitech did it absolute best to make sure that this operation was as difficult as they could make it. If you want to mount your speakers on anything but the little desk prong that it comes with be ready for a dandy of a time. To remove the little stands is not simple at all they even fill in the Philips head so you could not get the screwdriver in for removal. I had to use needle nose pliers and twist away this process got cuss meter started because pliers keep slipping. After removal of the stand the Logitech engineers did it to me again the bolt inside the speaker was not fix to the speaker so it rattle around inside and in order to attach the bracket and fix the rattling bolt you must take the speaker apart. I had to do this operation 4 time and cuss meter went way way up. This is quite a shame coming from Logitech because one of the most important things in order to get full enjoyment of these speaker or any speaker system is PLACEMENT so you need the flexibility to use what ever mount you fancy. I have own Logitech speakers before these speaker were of the cheaper verity and they had a metal prong stand and not cheap plastic and a nice big Philips head for easy mounting. Being that this is one time deal unless you need to change your stand. But once it done you will gets to enjoy a great system.
Digital camera Review: A wonderful system, best in my experience. Summary: 5 Stars
Not too, too, lengthy here. But folks, please be advised that this awesome system is/was designed for use with a computer versus as a home theater system with a TV, etc. Even so, it functions wonderfully as a general home theater system in my experience. I've owned half a dozen HTX's and haven't been nuts about any of them and all of them had bugs or flaws, true story, except this one. Simply said, IMO, it just the best made and best on the market. Yeah, you'll get reviewers who say that the mid-range, the balance, the this and that, etc........are not as good as this system or that syatem........but I don't know what University they got their engineering degrees from and what they are using for ears.......because IMV, they are looking for something fully 99% of the people can't hear anyway.
Now for the con - but it's really not a con, per se. You see, like most other people I am using the system as a home theater set-up with my Plasma TV system, etc. I had a couple of issues sorting out the wiring but got it done without much trouble soon enough and, more specifically, I have wanted the control module to be much closer to me........like on end table or coffee table in front of me when I'm watching a movie or a video, but the cord to the control module is only about six feet long (attaches the control module to the rear of the sub) and it won't reach that far. I tried to use VGA cables and even tried to have a cable made to splice in, noting that to do so, that is, use such a modification voids the warranty and may cause damage to the innerds of the sub so they say, but I couldn't get it done - I couldn't find an extension cable. I even called Logitech and spoke to their CSR's who told me not to modify it that it wasn't designed to be modified....... In any case I am using the remote control for all the functions I need from across the room and, frankly speaking, just let me conclude by saying that if someone , anyone really, IMV, is not satisfied with this incredible system (build, fit, finish, features, performance and price) I haven't a clue as to what they would be looking for because this system, I firmly believe second to none. I'm a Logitech fan and have been for a long time and I never been stung by any of their products, but just the same, this system is a winner.
Digital camera Review: AMAZING SOUND!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this system for a gaming racing chair setup and connected it to a Playstation 3 using a digital optical cable. When I first setup my game chair, steering wheel/pedals, TV and Playstation 3 to test everything, I only used the TV speakers (not very good). My gaming race chair setup came to life once I installed the Z-5500!! This system is better than my $1000+ Sony Home Theater system.
Digital camera Review: AMAZING SPEAKERS!!! Summary: 5 Stars
i bought these speakers a few weeks ago and love them! These speakers sound great and can go very loud. I use them in a small dorm room and small bedroom at home and havent had a problem with the sub despite its large size. I reccomend the speakers to any music/game/movie lover! I use these speakers on my computer and with my TV and they are great and a breeze to set up! Get these speakers and you definitely won't regret it!!!
Digital camera Review: AMAZING Speaker System Summary: 5 Stars
These speakers are amazing. I had them for a couple of days and then gave them to my mom for Christmas. My friend also got these without consulting with me and he loves them! They can be hooked up to three different sources (regular jack, coax, and something else) and it's complete surround sound. My friend hooked it up to his PS3 and his TV and his computer. It has amazing sound and cool features (like test each speaker to make sure it's working) It also comes with a remote.
The only cons I can think of is that the subwoofer is huge! It's a pretty big system, but a pretty big sound comes out of it as well!
