Digital camera reviews of Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black)

Digital camera Review: Almost Perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this keyboard for about a year and it is by far my favorite. It looks absolutely beautiful, with clean, minimalist lines. This is in contrast to so many other high-end keyboards, which tend to be either too gimicky or toyish looking. Construction is solid, it feels suprisingly heavy considering its slim profile. Even under close inspection you'll be hard-pressed to find a single seam.

I really like the tactile response from the keys. The amount of force required to initiate a keypress feels just right: not too mushy, not too clicky-clacky. Resistance after the initial action is constant and the amount of travel is relatively short, although it feels slightly longer than what you'd find on a typical laptop keyboard. It really facilitates efficient typing: quick, error-free and absolutely silent.

Battery life is excellent. Even with constant daily typing, a full charge lasts me about a month. The recharge time itself is also good. I haven't really kept track of it but a few hours and I'm good to go for another month.

So why didn't I give it the full five stars?

The Bluetooth receiver (USB) that came with the keyboard was extremely flaky in Vista (both x86 and x64). After reboots, Vista would often fail to recognize the receiver. The only way I got it to work was by removing the receiver and plugging it back in, usually multiple times. Eventually, I went to a Mac and it worked flawlessly with the built-in Bluetooth receiver (FYI: there is a Mac version of this keyboard but the Windows version works with Macs too).

After about a year of use, some of the keys are losing their labels and surface texture. The metallic-looking wristrest is starting lose its metallic veneer, exposing the underlying plastic material. Everything is still working flawlessly, but it's a bit disappointing to see how quickly the surface of this keyboard is eroding.

You will never use the touchpad on the keyboard. I'm not sure why Logitech included it. Maybe for a console-based system it would be useful but on a desktop computer, it's totally useless. By the way, the volume control touchpad, on the other hand, is quite useful.

Like with most Logitech high end products, this one could really be the best of the best, but it has some flaws which you can overcome at additional cost.

The hardware construction is extremely good, with one small issue of Plexiglass detached in some places, but it is really a minor issue.

The real problem here is a connection with the class-2 Bluetooth adapter with range up to 10 meters.
If you intend to use the keyboard at a distance of 1 meter, than it will work very well. But for most of us who want to use it from a distance 2-5 meters, it will constantly stop responding and/or disconnect.

You can fix this, if you are ready to spend another $30 on a class-1 Bluetooth adapter. I have tried Cirago (with toshiba driver) but it didn't work very well.
The one I have found to work the best is Anycom USB-550 (with broadcom chipset, which is the one originally used in Logitech adapter). Just remember to download the latest driver from their forum: BTW_5.5.0.7400.

There's nothing more to say than this Keyboard is Amazing. I know it's a little pricey but you won't be sorry you bought it.

Digital camera Review: Amazing Keyboard with amazing flaw
Summary: 1 Stars

How can a keyboard as well made and well designed as the Dinovo Edge have such egregious flaw. The touchpad has a tap-to-click feature that CANNOT BE DISABLED!!!!!WTF. I love this keyboard but the tap-to-click feature is so aggrevating and so annoying that it makes the keyboard almost worthless. DINOVO FIX THIS!!!!!

Digital camera Review: Amazing Keyboard!

This keyboard is great. Plug n Play is great, the orange glow of function keys fade in and out smoothly and the keys feel very responsive. The touchpad and volume scroll features are great. i haven't even installed the setpoint software so I can't wait to see what other great features the board has.
