Digital camera reviews of Lomography Colorsplash 35MM Camera

Digital camera Review: JUNK!
Summary: 1 Stars

I had been wanting this camera for a while, since my boss showed it to me online. The things I saw online made it look so cool. I'm a camera buff. Finally decided to order it, I even paid extra for next day shipping. I was excited to get home to try it out. As soon as I opened the package and picked it up, I realized how cheaply made it is. I loaded the film according to the directions, but the advance mechanism didn't work right. It would just tear the film at the little gripper hole things. I thought maybe it was my error or defective film or something. I went out and bought another 2 rolls of film to try. Same thing! The advance wheel feels so cheap and notchy. The design of the advance wheel is terrible also. It doesn't grip the film positively. I packaged the camera back up, and now am returning it. I guess I have to eat the extra shipping costs and cost of the film I bought to try it the second time. What a waste of money! Don't buy this!!! :( Look for a quality camera.

Digital camera Review: Lots of fun,a little expensive
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this camera for a little over a month and I've had a blast with it! I've gotten tons of great pictures from it, including some surprisingly good daytime shots, with and without the flash.

It's pretty expensive for what it is, but I've never seen anything like the Colosplash's colorwheel, so I was willing to pay.

I chose this over other lomography cameras because it's more versatile (35mm film, can take "normal" pictures)and because it's a lot more affordable than, say an LCA.

And despite the overt marketing ploys, I like the manufacturer's website a lot. You can sign up for a free "LomoHome" and post all your pictures and see other people's pictures too! I really like having a forum to display my shots, since I'm not a professional and nobody would ever see them otherwise!

Check of the manufacturers website: www.lomography.com for more detailed information, and to see what the pictures come out looking like. You'll most likely get a better price here on Amazon though.

Digital camera Review: Man, is analog the new cool?
Summary: 4 Stars

OK, so the design really caught my eye. I couldn't wait till I could get my hands on my new 35mm film camera, that's right, film. Not digital. And when it came, it was all about presentation. Sadly, I haven't gotten the trademark Lomographic pictures that I wanted, partly because the flash didn't work at all on my first of now three rolls. Works with normal 35mm - I recommend 400 speed. Man, maybe it's too early to review this product, as it might be time as the main factor. The truths: The craftmanship is sub-par, but concept is crucial to liking and/or buying this camera for you or someone you love. It is an experiment waiting to begin! Have fun.

Digital camera Review: Nice 35mm for the price offered.
Summary: 4 Stars

As far as 35mm cameras go, this one's pretty good. It takes quite a great deal of patience and delicacy, but with this camera you can take some pretty good snappies. Way better quality than digitals plus some rockin ass effects!

Digital camera Review: Pleasantly Surprised
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this camera with some cash I got for Christmas, because I wanted a small fun 35mm to carry around, but I didnt want a Holga and the Horizon Kompakt or Perfekts were too expensive. My other cameras are high end professionals (Nikon F1, Mamyia C33 and Mamyia RB), and never really got around to experimenting with cross processing and color gels, so I thought this camera would be appropriate for lo fi fun.

After reading the reviews on here, it seemed like most complained about the cheapness of the camera, found it inoperable upon delivery, broke parts, etc. Folks, Im not sure what you were expecting, or know the other types of cameras that Lomo produces, but they are CHEAP TOY CAMERAS. They are not meant to be high quality photo wonders. They are meant to be simple, have light leaks, take weird, interesting photos and thats it.

I was almost expecting a total piece of crap after reading the other reviews, but i was more than happy with the quality of this little camera. When held, it feels solid. The little winder does feel a bit cheap, but this is to be expected. The color gels are easy to change out (I can use my stubby fingernail to get the door off), but dont expect to be able to do it on the fly. It does take a small amount of tinkering.

It came in a really unique packaging system that can be kept to store the camera and its documentation over and over, and is great if you travel alot or are moving. The unique 3 piece protective cover for the camera is an ugly teal and forest green concoction, but it fits the camera well and black vinyl spray paint from the auto parts store will fix that easily (the stuff lasts a lifetime). Im excited to see how the pictures turn out.

Expect a fun to use and fun to look at camera to take with you on your daily excursions, and then upload them to the lomography.com website to share!
