Digital camera reviews of Lowepro Fastpack 250 (Red)Digital camera Review: Great Bag! Summary: 5 Stars
The Lowepro Fastpack 250 is an excellent camera and laptop bag. Although designed for a 15.4" laptop it could easily accommodate a larger computer. I put my Nikon D300 with mounted 18-200 VR lens in it with no problems. The bag fits easily under an airline seat (even on a CRJ-200) and has room in the personal gear compartment for four paperback books plus some snacks! The only negative is that the carry handle could use some padding.
Digital camera Review: Great Day Pack Summary: 5 Stars
I am extremely pleased with this camera bag. At first I thought it might be a little too big for my needs. I wanted a day pack that I could get my Nikon D200 with 18-200mm lens attached plus carry my 70-300mm and lensbaby but not be a huge backback. It ends up this pack was the perfect size.
Pros
- camera on the bottom of the pack for weight distribution
- side opening for easy access to camera. Can slip the camera in and out without opening up the whole pack
- pockets in the front for accessories like extra batteries and flash cards
- zipper side for lap top is next to your back (I use this compartment to stick my wallet in and push it to the far side so it is more secure)
- zippered compartment that will take a light weight jacket along with pockets for cell phone, pens, and keys
- another compartment which I can put some snacks in
- a side mesh pocket for a water bottle
Cons
- as others have mentioned on Lowepro packs, no attachment for carrying a tripod
- would like a few more velcro compartments on the flip side where the other velcro pockets are
- would like a little more depth on mesh pocket for the water bottle
- wish it came with a rain cover
I also like the fact that when you take it off and set it down it stays upright. I wore it all day (of course the camera was around my neck which made the pack pretty light) and it was very comfortable. Excellent construction and excellent price for what you get.
Digital camera Review: Great backpack for lots of camera gear, laptop, and more Summary: 4 Stars
The side-entry feature works very well for quick access to your camera. Other items are less easily accessible, as they require opening the flap a bit farther, but still can be done without taking the pack off to set it down.
I carry a Canon XSi body with 24-105 f/4L mounted, lens hood, EF-S 18-55, and EF-S 55-250 in the bottom section, and filters, a mid-size Rocket Blower, and a small pop-up flash diffuser in the top, with a LOT of room left over. This backpack is rather large.
The pack worked well for a day at the amusement park with the kids. I could carry the gear above plus a water bottle in the outside mesh pocket, assorted snacks, and a few sweatshirts. I could fold an adult sweatshirt flat and put it in the laptop section, and two kids sweatshirts went into the top part.
The pocket for a cell phone or MP3 player is on the small side, but did barely hold my plain-vanilla phone -- an iPhone or Blackberry would definitely not fit.
Overall, a great camera pack for carrying a lot of gear, plus a bunch of other things. For carrying only the camera stuff, I much prefer my Lowepro Slingshot 100 since it is far less bulky and (just barely) fits everything in.
Digital camera Review: Great bag - and love the color - does it all Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this bag for a week, and I've gotta say - I love this bag! I finally sprung for a DSLR (EOS T2i) after years weaning myself from film through a progression of better digital cameras. I'm really excited that I now have the equipment to shoot like I used to with my Elan IIe. But, for that to work, I need the camera with me as much as possible. Cameras in closets don't make memories.
I also need to schlep my PC, assorted stuff, etc. I have been carrying a Timbuk2 classic messenger bag, but I'm not going to let a $1200+ mix of camera gear roll around in that. I will not carry two bags, though - one's enough, thanks.
This bag is so close to perfect for me it's remarkable. I can fit the 2Ti with any of my 3 lenses mounted (including a relatively long 200mm zoom), the rest stored, together with my old 380EX Speedlite and case, a Zoom digital mic (a great addition to the camera for video with great audio) and I still have one section of the camera compartment empty. Not for long, probably.
The upper compartment holds "stuff" - laptop power adapter, camera battery charger, charger for AA batteries (for flash), network cable, patch cables, a couple of USB flash drives, pens, zip lock bags, etc. Believe me - I am an expert at loading up a bag, and I have a ways to go.
Some interesting points based on other reviews: The cell phone pocket on the strap is in fact too small for a real phone (I have a Droid), but it's the perfect size for business cards. Try it out. Many have said that they're disappointed there's no dedicated attachment for a tripod. I have a lightweight Ambico tripod, and I've been able to fit it under the adjustable straps on the front of the bag, the ones that keep you from opening the quick-access camera compartment too far. You can crank the straps down fairly tight. I'm not sure I'd go rock climbing with a tripod hung this way, but for A to B trips it works pretty well.
I was concerned that the notebook compartment might not be big enough for my Dell Studio 15 with the 9-cell battery. That battery adds a lot of thickness on the back of the notebook. It fits, although it's tight, and the back battery "handle" makes it easy to remove the notebook.
With all this, this bag is really no heavier or bulkier than my loaded messenger when I wasn't carrying a camera. I just need to avoid cramming it with papers and stuff that I carry around for six months :-)
So, all in all, this is a great multi-purpose bag.
Digital camera Review: Great camera bag Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great back pack, easily held my Nikon D5000, extra lens, Canon FS100 video camera, extra memory cards, and chargers. Also the padded pocket held my 14 inch notebook with space to spare for a book. The upper portion held my sunglasses, ipod and other small items with ease. Took bag on 2 week bus tour used multiple times each day with out any problems, bag held up great
Pros: Bag holds equipment nicely, can adjust dividers in the camera portions for different size equipment.
- Nice size not bulky, easy to wear, good straps and padding.
-Can get to camera from side pocket do not have to worry about other items falling out
-Flat bottom on bag keeps bag upright
-Solid construction, zippers smooth, good padding
Cons: When fully loaded including the notebook computer bag is heavy, carrying it all day is a chore. (the bag itself is light)
For my needs this bag was great, I ended up not taking the computer on all day trips and this made carrying the bag all day a breeze. Bag has very nice padding on the straps and back of the pack it is comfortable to wear. I would recommend this to anyone who does not carry more than a few extra lens, it might not be able to carry more than 2 extra lens.
