I want the thank my mom for buying The Midland Weather Radio 300 for my birthday! It was the best gift I had. I live near New York City and on occasion, severe weather rolls in and this weather radio has really warned us! I quit using my old weather radio because you had no control over what the siren went off for. This one allows you to turn the siren off for most alerts and you can set it to just your county (or multiple neighboring counties). Even if alarm is not set to go off for a given watch/warning, you can still see it on the display. If you don't want to be awaken at night for a Amber Alert or thunderstorm watch - this is the weather radio for you. I bought 3 radios for the guys in my family. They all loved them. I set up the radio for my Dad and I am confident that they will be safe from bad weather. I was able to receive their local NOA radio weather station without even raising the antenna assuring me that they will get the weather alerts they will need. Calling the NOA weather 800 number to get their area code was easy for me but I'm not so sure my techno delinquent parent could have done it without some help. As long as you follow the directions in the booklet most people should be able to set up their radios without problem.Digital camera Review: Best bang for the buck

With many recent tornados and severe storms, we decided it was time to get a weather radio. After a lot of research, the Midland WR-300 radio was the best product available within our price range - and even better than many expensive options. It allows us to program our county and the local NOAA radio and an AM/FM station to get local coverage. Its automatic alarm is loud enough to wake us and the neighbors before it reaches the loudest setting. This is the only weather radio where you can choose the type of alerts. Otherwise, I'd be woken up in the middle of the night for every watch/warning that is issued.
