Digital camera Review: A solid value.

I've had this enclosure for about three months now. It contains a Hitachi 1T drive and is connected to my Mac mini.
The enclosure was easy to assemble, with all the necessary hardware, USB and FW cables provided. The fit and finish is very nice and almost makes me wish I had a Mac Pro to match it.
There have been no startup issues with the big Hitachi. Energy Saver is set to "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" and the Macally enclosure hasn't stalled yet. After watching 2.5 hours of movies and TV stored on it the enclosure was barely warm to the touch.
My *only* negative comment is that it's a little noisy. It's not as loud as the mini can get, but not as quiet either. And it's definitely louder than my 2.4GHz 24" iMac.
Different drives will affect the overall noise, but a short stint with a Seagate 1T drive was just as noisy. This will no doubt be the case with most lightweight aluminum enclosures. Some, like my LaCie d2 can be very quiet. That's built like a tank.
Almost any ambient noise will mask the Macally box, but I wish it were quieter.
I'm very satisfied and recommend it.
