Digital camera reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEY

Digital camera Review: Awesome keyboard at a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a fantastic keyboard. It has a great feel. I type very quickly (~75 words/minute), and the low-profile keys never trip me up. (On the stock KB w/ my gigabit Power Mac, I sometimes caught the corners on the high-profile keys.)

The keys are very easy to push without being "too" easy. It's also pretty quiet. The key action is very similar to that on my MacBook, but the shape of the keys is much better. Expect smooth, responsive touch typing without finger fatigue. Key placement is very good; expect little pinky finger contortion.

Volume and eject buttons work well--can't remember if this required drivers.

I've had this keyboard for about 9 months, and I'm back on the product page b/c I'm about to buy a second one for the office.

I just finished writing my dissertation, and including all the drafts plus all the other typing I've done, I've typed hundreds and hundreds (maybe thousands) of pages' worth of text on this keyboard. I eat and drink around it (no direct spills but plenty of crums and peanut butter) all the time. I unplug and reconnect stuff to the USB ports like crazy. It's held up splendidly through it all. I almost never even wipe it down, and it still looks great.

Like all of my Mac keyboards, I successfully pried off the "Help" key. (Do it! You know you're sick of bumping into it. Having it next to the forward delete button always gets too annoying.)

Digital camera Review: Best Mac Keyboard to use, besides the ones on the Powerbooks that is.
Summary: 5 Stars

I switched from a Powerbook to a Mac Mini and was in search of a keyboard that felt like I was typing on my Powerbook (effortlessly). Although nothing can beat the powerbook's keyboard, this does quite a close job. I first started using the apple pro keyboard with my mac mini and was not used to having to press down so hard on the keys that I always ended up missing letters when I typed up a document or anything for that matter.

Then I read the reviews on this puppy and decided to give it a try. Best buy I've made. It's very easy to use and smooth too.
I love that it has special function keys for the Mac and that it also has 2 usb ports. The one thing that would make this keyboard even better is if it were wireless (bluetooth specifically). Although don't let that deter you from buying this, especially if you just hide all your wires behind the computer anyway.

There's also this weird blank key on the keyboard. It has no function whatsoever and you can't program it to do anything. It's just there. Weird. But I only noticed it when I first tried it out and have never noticed it again. But I figure it's worth mentioning for those of you who are extremely particular about things.

It's a great keyboard for a great price. If you don't mind the cord and want to type with extreme ease, i think you'll love this one.

Digital camera Review: Best keyboard I have used in years.
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this keyboard for my ibook to spare the built-in k/b ( and because I simply can't type fast enough on the ibook's ). After shopping around on Amazon it came down to this one or the Apple Pro k/b. The cost and reviews of the icekey swayed me and I am ecstatic about my choice.

The keys are solid and respond quickly without the normal squishy computer keyboard feel. My fingers don't have to travel a mile and a half to register the keystroke and I enjoy hearing the gentle click after completing a key press.

The closest comparison to the feel to this keyboard is the keyboard on the Apple IIc that I had so many years ago ( I am dating myself..I realize).
I am really happy now. I can type at full speed, I have two USB ports ( just like an Apple Pro k/b) , and a full numerical keypad. I am also thrilled that the volume control keys and eject keys work flawlessly.

If looks concern you - this is one hot looking little number as well.

I am now hard at work trying to program the "mystery key" ( to the right of the control key) to trigger my coffee maker.

added:
I swear I tried to use the Apple keyboard on my iMac but honestly I was used to better so I just plugged in the MacAlly k/b and it is a thousand times better. I bought it for my ibook but it works perfectly with the iMac G5 and I reiterate that no k/b is better. As a writer the reaction of the keys is very important and this is now the best k/b I have ever used ( including the IIc).

Sadly, it has spoilt me totally and I cannot use any other keyboard now. MacAlly should win an award for creating this fine piece of machinery. And no...I have no connection with the company ( you can check me out in Fodor's Caribbean). This is an excellent and amazing keyboard and after almost 2 years it still looks amazing.

Digital camera Review: Best keyboard but easy to damage
Summary: 4 Stars

I love this keyboard, but I've had 3 of them in the past few years. One died after trying to wipe the keyboard well to clean it. Some keys popped off and I could not get them back on. The 2nd died when the S key started being flaky. But compared to using the standard Apple keyboard, which is unusable (hopefully the new grey one is better), it is a joy to use.

Digital camera Review: Best keyboard ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This keyboard is by far the best ever; I'll never go back to an Apple keyboard. The feel is unparalleled -- the slightly textured finish on the keycaps, the scissor switch action, and even the subtle sounds it makes -- just heaven. I saw in some other reviews there was a driver issue with Leopard at one point, but they must have fixed it. Works perfectly for me.
