Digital camera reviews of Macally USB Slim Keyboard - ICEKEY

Digital camera Review: Excellent Keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great keyboard--much better than the original Mac keyboard that it replaced. The keys have a nice easy action that involves much less travel than the original coupled with nice feedback. I've been using Macs for nearly 15 years and have used a number of original and third party keyboards. This one is by far the best I have encountered.

In addition, the USB cable is nice and long compared to the Mac keyboard. It does have a slightly larger footprint the newest mac usb keyboard, but that is not a problem for me. While it works "plug and play," full functionality requires an install from the provided CD.

I highly recommend this keyboard!

Digital camera Review: Excellent Keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a really excellent keyboard. The feel of the keys is like the old Mac keyboards; the keys are slightly concave, which I think feels much better than the new chiclet keys. It reminds me a lot of my iBook keyboard. I went to their website and downloaded the new drivers for leopard, so now the volume buttons work. The only thing is that there is no fn key, so you'll have to use an actual 'delete' key instead of fn + backspace. Really not a problem at all, though!

Digital camera Review: Excellent Keyboard from Heaven, Indeed !!
Summary: 5 Stars

First, my sincere thanks to VRH for their review here, which finally led me to the object of my fingers' desire !

Sometimes you don't consciously know what you like, or what you're looking for,
until you have a sufficient contrast-frame experience to compare with.

I hadn't realized several "little - big" things I'd grown accustomed to on my excellent pro-star PC laptop,
until 2 things conspired to make me conscious -

first, spending time on my new fiance's Apple keyboard with its dual USB ports
(their design sense outshines Win-tel once again :>),

and second, spending time on a variety of desktop PC keyboards.

I learned that I must have the short key-travel distance provided by the low profile "Scissor-Key-Switches" laptop style
keyboards technology, versus the long key-travel & tall clunky keys found on standard type keyboards.

Also, I must have 3 double-width keys - the Shift, Enter or Return, & Backspace or Delete keys.

I began to notice how some of these were only 1 key wide on some keyboards, vs. 2 keys wide on my laptop.

This Macally USB Slim Keyboard is a diamond at a cubic zirconia price, & will no doubt totally satisfy the Apple/Mac group, since it allows the special keys to be configured with the Apple/Mac software drivers provided on the included disc.

Plus, I won bonus points with my fiance for buying this keyboard for her second Mac at the office.

Since my search was for a "Windows" flavour slimline PC keyboard with 2 USB ports & minimal additional keys,
I followed reviewer VRH's hint to the DC International note station site,
and found a nearly identical keyboard specifically configured for PCs -
the 4 PC-functional keys on the top Right are Volume UP, DOWN, MUTE, & computer STANDBY.

And the 2 USB 1.1 ports are more than sufficient to power a mouse & my USB memory stick.

Spend the time to experiment & identify what works for YOU, and YOUR time in Silicon-land will be happily rewarded !

Digital camera Review: Excellent keyboard, easy on your hands
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm totally sold on this keyboard. I love it so much that I keep a spare. Another reviewer mentioned problems with the software under Panther, but I haven't seen ANY problems with either Jag or Panther. It has the Apple media keys, so you can open and close your optical drives from the keyboard.

I use mine at home, but I used it briefly at the office when I first got it. Two of my co-workers (who have to use Windows) tried my iceKey and liked it so much that they immediately got iceKeys to replace the awful Dell keyboards they'd been using.

Very little pressure is required to type on these low travel, springy keys. The keys are broad and flat and easy to hit (or harder to miss, for those of us whose typing skills aren't great). It's far more comfortable to use than the majority of keyboards I've looked it. If you don't tend to whack the keys when typing, you'll find it's pretty quiet, especially compared to the Matias Tactile Pro, which feels good to type on, but is very clacky and noisy in comparison. In just about any setting, quiet is definitely better.

I'll keep buying these as long as they keep making them.

Digital camera Review: Excellent keyboard, even for a PC.
Summary: 5 Stars

This keyboard is awesome. I needed a very low profile keyboard to make my hands feel better and this does the trick. I use Windows 2000 Pro and it was recognized right after plugging it in. The only drawback is that the keys are designed for a Mac and so it's missing PRNTSCRN & INSERT (and probably something else I cannot remember). This isn't a big issue but might make taking screenshots more difficult. Besides that, it looks great, feels great, and works well. If you've found that you like to rest your whole arm on the desk when typing (as I do) this keyboard is for you as your hands will be only slightly elevated and still in a relaxed position. Enjoy!
