Digital camera Review: Maxtor OT4 Mini - Can I Give it Less than 1 Star?
Summary: 1 Stars

Used it for one week, then all of a sudden my laptop doesn't recognize it anymore. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, read every message board I can find -- nothing. And from the complaints I've read, I'm obviously not alone. The worst $70 I ever spent!

Digital camera Review: Maxtor is junk; this is no exception.
Summary: 1 Stars

Maxtor, as you may have noticed from other reviews, has a very poor reputation. I would only purchase Maxtor if I wanted to give it to someone I didn't like so that they could lose their information. Typically, they are guaranteed to die well before the year is out, but their replacements also die and then you're out of luck. If you attempt to have them recover your data, they will charge you LITERALLY THOUSANDS of dollars. If you take it elsewhere, they will void your warranty. The software never works, often failing to install properly, failing to carry out back-up functions, or simply cluttering up your system. The onetouch software is possibly the most horribly written hunk of digital mess I've ever experienced. I have yet to get it to ever work.

Digital camera Review: Non techie review
Summary: 4 Stars

Thought this would be great to backup my computer and I was right. So easy to use and very mobile. Office Depot had it on sale for $99 one weekend but its still a great deal. Other reviews said it didn't capture files from Outlook so you may want to check that out.

Digital camera Review: Non-standard USB
Summary: 2 Stars

Be forewarned this drive 1) comes with a micro-USB connector and 2) comes with a cable that goes from micro USB to TWO USB ports on your computer (one for power+data and one for more power). Having to carry a proprietary cable and take up two USB ports on your computer is a drag.

Digital camera Review: Plugged it in and it worked
Summary: 5 Stars

Reading some the negative reviews had me a little worried but I received the drive, plugged it into my MacBook Pro and it worked. Simple as that. It's also compact and lightweight. It has a nice long cable too. My Western Digital has a small 6" cable which can be inconvenient.

A couple things to note:
The cable for the drive does have 2 USB connectors. 1 for Data & Power and 1 for Power. The 1 for Power is simply for situations where the Data & Power don't suffice on the computer in question. I have a Seagate with the same cable. I've never had to use the second USB.

Many of the complaints might be about the software that comes with the drive. I can't speak to that as I never use it. My Western Digital external has similar software. I avoid it. I'll most likely be using this drive with Apple's TimeMachine software instead.
