Digital camera reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)Digital camera Review: 49 out of 50 coasters Summary: 1 Stars
Memorex makes the WORST DVD R DL Media. I maybe had one good disk, all of the others either failed to write or only wrote half way, basically making them a useless waste of time and money. DO NOT buy this product! The price may be attractive, but think of it this way, you may get one or two good disks out of the spindle.
Digital camera Review: 50 pk spindle = 25 dvd's + 25 free coasters Summary: 1 Stars
Actually, the 50% success rate is a very generous assessment because I really had only about 7 or 8 successful burns in 20 atempts. Usually when I experience errors burning dvd's I'll try different software and that'll solve the problem. But with these discs, using 4 to 5 different software programs, and always burning at the slowest speed possible, appeared to have little affect.
Update: I have been reading other customer reviews, and have noticed at least half a dozen people who said they initially had a 100% success rate on their first batch, but when they purchased another batch, had well over a 50% failure rate.

Digital camera Review: 8x does not mean your computer can burn 8x Summary: 5 Stars
I have recently bought these Dual Layer DVD+R 8x Memorex from best buy and I highly recommend them. They are no different from verbatim which to buy I spent $20 on for a 5 pack. I bought them after having read these reviews just to prove they work fine. The main problem with the other review are the people are actually trying to burn data at 8x speeds which they are doing because it says 8x on the case, I do blame memorex and even verbatim for not warning users but not all computers can burn at 8x speeds. I found this out the hard way when I tried to burn Verbatim and Memorex at 8x, then I found a forum online that told me to slow them down to 4x or 2.4x and both Memorex and Verbatim disks worked perfectly.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MEMOREX MAINLY FOR PRICE AND QUALITY.
If you have patience, burn the data at 2.4x it will take around 30 mins but I promise you it will work. Without any errors and I recommend that you go find a good burner off the web that will allow you to burn at 2.4x and that will verify the disk for you that makes sure there are no errors.
If you have any issues with finding a program or with disks either Memorex or Verbatim, please, drop me an email at Flare66@gmail.com .
Digital camera Review: A Waste of Time and Money Summary: 1 Stars
I bought a spindle of Memorex DLs based solely on the price. I was aware of the bad reviews, but I just could not justify paying nearly $2 per Verbatim DL disc when I could split movies or burn data on 2 single-layer discs for less than 20 cents a disc (or 40 cents compared to $2 for the same capacity). A costly mistake to buy these.
Out of 20 discs, less than half even burned successfully. The bad burns would fail as it started writing to the second layer. On the successful burns, the discs would stutter and freeze in my DVD player when it started playing the second layer (yes, I can tell where the layer break is). People touting successful burns with Memorex mean nothing! And I don't have the time to run PI/PO error checks or even watch every movie or video that I burn! The worst feeling in the world is watching a burned DVD a month later and finding glitches knowing that your original recording is long gone from your PC.
My advice is to stay away from Memorex at all costs. If you factor in a conservative 25% fail rate with Memorex, you'll see that it's cheaper to just buy Verbatim. This doesn't even account for the wasted time or the value of your movies or irreplaceable personal videos. If you are just burning data, stick with cheaper, more reliable single-layer media. I personally would never use any DLs to archive important data files. Just because you've owned commercial DVDs for a decade now means nothing. Keep in mind that those DVD-9 double layers are not even burned on a chemical dye which degrades over time but pressed.
