Digital camera reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)Digital camera Review: Bad discs, bad burns Summary: 1 Stars
I tried these despite multiple bad reviews, expecting that maybe they would work better for me. They did not. Out of 15 burns, ALL failed except for ONE! Complete waste of money. I will never be buying this again.
Digital camera Review: Bad quality Summary: 1 Stars
Ok, the quality of these discs are really bad. So far I have burnt 3 discs and only 1 that actually successfully finished the job. I got IO errors in the middle of the process on the other 2 discs.
Digital camera Review: Be prepared for a lot of coasters... Summary: 1 Stars
So far I'm able to burn 8 gigs to these with only a 50% success rate. This is ridiculous. Half of what I send to it ends up a useless coaster. I would not recommend this brand for DVD-DL discs unless you have money to burn, so to speak.
Digital camera Review: Best DVD+R DL you can get Summary: 5 Stars
Not only the best double layer discs that I have worked with, but the price is the lowest around. Amazon has the best deal when it comes to this specific product. I rarely get a bad dvd and most of the time is due to a bad burner or image and not the disc at all. Thanks Amazon and Memorex.
Digital camera Review: Best choice for price Summary: 4 Stars
I've been getting these types of dual layers for a few years now and I've always had 100% success with them when I'm not the one that disrupts the burning process. The people that say these aren't worth anything very likely do not realize how delicate a process it is when burning to a dual layer dvd. If you so much as barely tap the table the dvd-burner is on, it can jar the burning head out of position and cause the entire burning to fail. I suspect that the people who say they have almost 100% failure, is because they're trying to burn with their laptop and simultaneously use their laptop, which I guarantee will cause your burning to fail. You have to set your dvd-burner wherever you plan to leave it, start the burning, then don't touch it at all or do something that will shake the area (like stomping, dropping something heavy, etc.) and leave the burner alone and untouched until it's done.
The only downside I have, is if you're using AVS Video Converter 7.1. If you want to convert video files using AVS Video Converter 7.1 and burn them to a dual layer - using these dvd's could result in failures. The AVS Support Team has told me that Verbatim works best for their program's dvd-conversions, but in the past, I never had problems using their converter to burn to dual layers until I updated the program to version 7, so I believe they've changed some things in their program, which cause it to now be less compatible with Memorex. Using anything besides AVS Video Converter, I have no problems burning to these dual layers.
