Digital camera reviews of Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)Digital camera Review: Burn at 4X max if you want these to work. Summary: 4 Stars
I have only had a couple of bad burns out of a couple hundred attemps. But you must burn these at 4X if you want results like I'm getting.
Digital camera Review: Burn it slow Summary: 5 Stars
Overall, a good deal. I successfully burned this disc with iMac (2.4 G Intel Duo Core OS X 10.5.5) which has Optiarc DVD RW AD-5630A. The software is Toast 8 Titanium. To be safe I burned at 2 X at first and then at 4 X. The burned discs played with a standard DVD player by Toshiba which I bought in 2001, a portable DVD player by Sony which I bought early 2008, and all kinds of Mac or Windows computers around me.
Digital camera Review: Burned hundreds of these DVDs and had very few problems Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using the Memorex DL for over a year now. I usually burn them on an external Sony 6X burner and I rarely have problems. In fact, I have not had a failure since I moved up to the newer 8X discs. I would guess I have burned 100-125 of these newer versions and they have all come out perfectly. I use Nero 7 as my burning program and it works perfectly. I just purchased another pack of 50 from Amazon because these work so well. I would recommend purchasing from Amazon as they cost $93 at Best Buy compared to $48 on Amazon.
Digital camera Review: Burner dependant? Summary: 1 Stars
Totally inconsistent with older style memorex +DLs that actually worked. This new batch does not work with my Sony burner with write errors when it attempts to write the second layer as per many previous reviews. Made coasters out of three then tried a verbatim +DL with no problem. Be very cautious when buying these as some burners may have problems with them.
Digital camera Review: Burners are piky Summary: 4 Stars
i have bought several of these from different suppliers. and tried many times to burn on different burners. out of 5 burners that i have only one has worked and i have seen reviews in other sites that have also had the same issue, when they try these on certain burners they don't work and on some they do. they are way cheaper than verbatim, and they do work very well for making bakups of movies or other media. They are worth it if you have a burner that will support these disks, keep in mind burning slow would also help. I usually burn these at 4x and so far havent had a coaster from the one burner in my house that works. i have had coasters from other burners but as long as far as my sony optitrac (forgot what model number and dont feel like checking) goes, they work flawlessly. if they were more compatible with other burners i would give it a 5 out of 5 because they do work well, just not in all burners.
