Memorex 8.5Gb dual layer DVD's are great.. I have used better then 1/2 the pack that I purchased and would but them again.. HOWEVER my problem is not witrh the DVD but the fact that when you BURN to dual layer if you do not have a DUAL layer reader you can not access data burnt to it.
It may 'User Error' or it could simply be that the hardware that is needed to take advantage of this must be standered.. either way.. I am sticking with single layer DVD's so I can use it on all my systems.
HOWEVER... if I ever do purchase any more Dual Layer's in the future Memorex is the brand I will go with it..
You get what you pay for and for the price you get a heck of a lot with Memorex!

The first time I tried this product I had a 80 percent burn rate. Decided to try it a second time. Unfortantely the second time yielded a 20 percent successful burn rate. I bought these to burn video DVDs to play on a 2nd generation (10+ year old) DVD player and they work fine. That's about the best endorsement of compatibility I can give: That DVD player won't play half the discs from Netflix.
The only caveat I found is that you really cannot burn these at 8x as the packaging claims. The faster you burn a disc, the less time each 'bit' spends under the laser. Beyond a certain point the DVD burner is at full power and cannot toast the bit as thoroughly as it would like. I have found 4X to work fine, but it will depend on your DVD drive. At 8X the ancient DVD player gets the occasional macroblock (video glitch). Yes, it will take 25 minutes to burn a dual-layer DVD at 4x. Better than a coaster in half the time!
Also, these discs do have a silver label surface, not a bare plastic top like my super cheap single-layer DVD+Rs.
