Digital camera reviews of Microsoft Arc Mouse - BlackDigital camera Review: Broken Scroll Wheel Summary: 1 Stars
Like others here, my scroll wheel did not last. After reading other reviews I feel lucky to have gotten 5 months use with mine. Shame on MS for continuing to sell a known defective product.
Digital camera Review: Broken Scroll Wheel = Useless Mouse Summary: 2 Stars
I've had this mouse for about two weeks now and it's been working great up until yesterday, when the scroll wheel decided to give out. The thing only works when it clicks while moving, but doesn't click anymore, instead just rolling around quietly, which wouldn't be too bad, if it actually still scrolled.
The button itself still works though, so I can use it for its third mouse button function. After I found that it had the problem, I discovered that it only got worse when the button was pressed and turned until it stopped working altogether. If you ask me, that's a pretty hard issue to avoid, seeing as it's a notebook mouse - meant to be taken places and stored where something like that is probably happens quite often.
Other than that, the mouse is great. The response is very accurate, the button on the side is just perfect, even if it seems too small at first, and it does feel like a full-size mouse. It might take a little getting used to at first, but overall, it's a great mouse other than the issues >>as long as you have somewhat normal-sized hands, or slightly smaller<<
I'm willing to give this thing another chance with an exchange on the possibility that I got a defective mouse, but I somewhat doubt that. I'd say it's worth the effort though.
Digital camera Review: Built for Speed. Not for Comfort. Summary: 2 Stars
Pros: Super good lucks, a reasonably small sized receiver, when folded smaller than most, nice faux-suede carrying case, accurate laser tracking.
Cons: Horrific ergononics. Positively unreachable button on side that will require you to actually release your grip and move your hand up the mouse in order to use it (a good inch or more out of place), no molded shaping that gives your hand a sense of 'rest' as it sits on the mouse. The space below the mouse is a place where your pinky finger will search longingly and unsuccessfully for a surface upon which to rest but instead, will find only cold, empty space.
I'm all for sleek aerodynamic design but it takes some gall to pronounce on the box of this product that it is "Built For Comfort" when such comfort can only be derived if your hand is perfectly flat and your thumb is the same length as your index finger. For THAT person I say to you, buy it now sir!
For the rest of us more ordinary folks, there isn't a single, solitary aspect of this design that proves to be at all comfortable. Buy it in the hope that it's daring design helps to start some small talk with the hottie seated next to you in a crowded cafe, but not for comfort!
I am now waiting to see if the scroll wheel fails as seems so common in other reviews.
UPDATE:
I returned it. Comfort matters.
Digital camera Review: Comes with free beer... Summary: 5 Stars
I've read a lot of reviews saying the scroll wheel on this mouse fails, however I've had mine over a year now and it has never given me a second of trouble. In fact, I'm on here now to buy another because I like it so much I want one for the home and one for the office.
As far as the USB receiver goes, it sticks out about 1/2" plugged in, so anyone saying that's too far is just being ridiculous. The receiver stores nicely into the mouse via a magnet and the whole thing folds up to about 2". Battery life is excellent, I use mine 8-12 hrs a day and have changed my batteries once in the last year.
Now, the funniest part....everyone loves the look/feel of this mouse. Even a year later, I still get compliments from people about how "cool" the mouse looks and how good the action is and I must admit, it is the most comfortable and responsive wireless mouse I've ever used. Signal response at an average of 1-3 ft is as consistent as any wired mouse.
I suppose that, like anything, there have got to be bad batches out there and with enough people using them, sooner or later you'll find a dud but I have no hesitation in buying a 2nd mouse and you should have no hesitation in buying your first.
Digital camera Review: Comfort and Style - Love it Summary: 5 Stars
I noticed this mouse because it looks so cool, but I was skeptical because I put comfort above all else. When I tried it, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it is. I can palm a basketball and this mouse still fit my hand. I also like how it looks... it's just cool plain and simple. My wife loves it too! Nice job Microsoft for bringing something new to the world of mice! I plan on giving this one as a Christmas gift as well.
