Digital camera reviews of Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 Webcam - BlackDigital camera Review: Consideing the year, could be better. Summary: 3 Stars
Could of been A LOT better. I remember back in the 90's I purchased a logitech something and its image quality was comparable to this one for the same price. Only difference is this one has a mic.
Bought this as an x-mas present so i can stay in better contact with loved ones. Sure it gets the job done, They can see and hear me and vice versa but the image quality is not exactly high-def...hell its not defined at all, you can make out is a person...but that's about it. The image quality is severely lacking, if this was say 7-10 years ago that would be great but considering the age we live in the quality should of been MUCH better. I know its only a 20 dollar cam but even so it should not be lacking so much in image. For 2010-2011 find a better deal this one isn't it.
Digital camera Review: Cost-effective Webcam Summary: 5 Stars
I had a webcam years ago, a cheapie $15 reject that was uber-crap. I wanted to give this a shot again, and I was pleasantly surprised with this one. MS usually makes decent-quality products, and the price was right with lots of decent reviews (except the idiot who posted bad-quality pictures and didn't seem to get the memo that the lens is "manual adjust" meaning you gotta turn the lens to focus).
The software installation was on a Win7 32-bit OS. It seemed to go on fine, and actually gives you the option to NOT install the MS chat software (Messenger, I think). Big kudos for that.
The driver and preferences software work nicely, although I used it for Skype, which auto-selected the camera just fine. I had to manually set the audio i/p to it's microphone, but that is a simple drop-down menu.
The video quality seems very nice. I chatted with my spouse via Skype from my company's ethernet to his AT&T-networked Viliv (PDA/tablet PC). It worked okay, but I imagine that not connecting through a cell carrier would have helped dramatically.
As for placement, the 6-foot USB cable weighs about as much as the whole camera so that can be an issue. It has rubber pads on the bottom ring for sitting flat, but the ring opens up to hook over a flat panel monitor. It swivels 360-degrees and tilts up and down with a fair amount of range.
Overall, I think this was well worth the twenty-five plus shipping.
I am hoping to try my hand at using to make short video e-mails to send to relatives and friends.
Digital camera Review: Couldn't be happier Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my dad since he just found out about skype and wanted to talk to his old friends overseas. The picture is great and the software installs very easily. All in all, for the price this is an excellent camera that was painless to install.
Digital camera Review: DONT BOTHER Summary: 1 Stars
I can't believe I paid 25.00 for this piece of crap. It must have a plastic lens because it is very grainy. I was hoping to use it with Photoimpression to take some stills. Microsoft makes you use their way
I actually bought a better one on Ebay for a penny
It would not even install on my Vista Laptop so I tried xp
You then have to click on the Microsoft live cam to get a page to come up just so you can take a pic...I clicked and clicked and occasionally it would come up
It saves your pics in a strange place and wants to use Media center to bring them up....another long wait and then Again you have to click and click to get the darn thing to work
Finally you have a grainy mess You can transfer them to Picassa to fix
That is way too much trouble for me
Back to my penny cam, this one is going back
Digital camera Review: Dead Simple Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this for my father-in-law and it works great! He uses it with MSN successfully. It hasn't given him (or I) any trouble in 6 months or so of operation (a few times per week).
