We purchased these radios for a cruise. They served the purpose as long as we were not too far from each other. I purchased the 20 mile range because of the complaints of ranges not being as advertised. When I tested these at home, the range was just under a mile. I don't see how they can advertise 20 miles in even the best conditions. I can only imagine how the 5 mile radios work. Aside from that, not bad for what we wanted them for.Digital camera Review: Terrible!!

I bought these to use at a huge resort we went to in Dominican Republic. For shortish range (3-5 city blocks) they work perfectly. They got pretty static-y and sometimes wouldn't work from our room all the way to the beach to tennis courts which were a good 15 minute walk in either direction with a bunch of buildings between. As it says in the directions they need a sight line to work optimally. They are well made and a good deal. Of course don't believe the 20 mile range claim. Digital camera Review: Just okay

We bought this set to talk to our in laws where they live 2 1/2 miles from us and we live in a suburb. Our set is not covering 20 miles at all, most coverage we got was about less than a mile. I think they are good for backyard / home work etc. Instructions booklet talks about that range will change if there are big buildings around where it is used but we don't have big buildings around us.
