My sister got our dad one of these and I was almost watering at the mouth.
I am an admitted weather nut.
My dad and I are amateur radio operators and weather spotters as well.
I bought this radio for several reasons, (1) Because of the price (2)Because of the brand (Midland) (3)Because I wanted a weather radio with the S A M E feature.
(4)Because of the fact it will operate with batteries as well as electric.
(5)The clock. I needed a bedside clock and this fit the bill for that.
All in all I am very impressed with this little radio and very happy with it's performance!
This is a great item and a great investment especially if you live in an area with extreme weather like tornado alley.
I don't live in tornado alley,but trust me Huntington,West Virginia and the surroundind area gets it's fair share of severe thunder storms and blizzards and flooding.
I much prefer being awakened by a beeep beeep beeep from this radio than to go uninformed during the event.
GET THIS RADIO! If for nothing else than for your own safety and peace of mind.

For someone looking for a dependable weather radio with good reception and S.A.M.E. technology, this radio is a good purchase. It's easy to program for the specific alerts and geographic areas you want monitored and is not constantly screeching at all times of day and night. It has the best static-free reception of any radio we have tried, has good battery backup, and is extremely inexpensive when you consider all the features it offers.
Purchase was easy and delivery quick .... just in time to try it out during TS Barry. Worked just as we had programmed it to do.

We have NO warning in Gwinnett County, GA and they have ignored my repeated requests for Sirens. I bought this gem and it sits quietly in the background until there is a severe weather alert for the counties I programmed and then I am roused to action by a really decent alarm. Not just weather, but for all manner of emergencies it will alert me. Easy to program, I can't believe I didn't already own this little gem. I bought myself one of these years ago because I am a recreational storm chaser. This small unit worked beautifully and recieved signals very well. I see some people have put in their reviews that they dont like that it alerts you when its 'only' a storm watch, ect. Well I would rather be alerted to smaller threats than not be alerted to larger threats. Better Safe Than Sorry! Plus, small storms can build with little to no warning sometimes, so its good to be aware when anything is headed your way. I will be buying another one of these units (at least one) as I can't seem to locate the one I had after moving to a new place (don't ya hate that?) and for the price, it can't be beat. Very good bang-for-the-buck with this small unit.
