Digital camera reviews of Model 51 Wall Register Air DeflectorDigital camera Review: Cheap elegant solution, but magnets too weak and screw holes a little fragile. Summary: 3 Stars
The Model 51 air deflector is a good design somewhat poorly implemented. The idea is that the deflector mounts on the register and directs the air up (like from behind a piece of furniture). To account for different widths the deflector can adjust from 10" to 16" by sliding. It works fine - but the problem is mounting it. The 51 comes with both magnets and screw hole slots. The magnets are too weak to hold it in place. The screw hole slots work provided your register has screws with heads the right size (or you'll need a washer) and enough play to back out the width of the plastic. Then you'll need to be careful to not tighten too much. The clear plastic is fragile and cracks easily.
Digital camera Review: Cheap. Really Cheap. Summary: 2 Stars
This thing is made of cheap, brittle plastic that is just waiting to break the first time you bump it with anything hard. In fact, mine arrived already chipped. Not worth the shipping cost to exchange. Magnets are adequate but they are housed in a metal sheath that will scratch the paint on your vents. Extend it beyond halfway and it sags in the middle and tries to come apart. After much wrestling I finally got it to stay in place on my 12" wall and it functions adequately, but you get just what your pay for with this. If you are concerned at all with durability, look elsewhere.
Digital camera Review: Fine for the price Summary: 4 Stars
As several others have mentioned, I would have preferred a magnetized version rather than having to use screws. However that said, this was a good and cheap way to deflect the 2 vents in our living room.
Digital camera Review: Great product, Horrid company Summary: 4 Stars
We ordered 2 air deflectors from this company. It took them way longer than expected to ship and when they got there, only one was fully in tact. The other was broken and even missing some pieces that would make it whole. The one that was in tact has been working great. However, trying to get a replacement for the broken deflector has been impossible and infuriating. After many attempts to reach their customer service via phone and e-mail, NO ONE has called us back or contacted us. All phone attempts are either shuttled to leaving a message or just being disconnected. Product is fine, customer service is non-existent. We've complained to the Better Business Bureau. And we still have a broken deflector on our hands.
Digital camera Review: I'm buying more. Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered one to check it out and I am very satisfied. The magnet is plenty powerful--eventually I may put some white contact paper on the side of the magnet that faces the room because other than the black magnet, the deflector is pretty unobtrusive. I am ordering eight more. I am using most of them to keep long curtains away from air intake grills (although I find that I need to add a weight to the curtain hem to keep the curtain from being pulled upwards against the grill, even with the deflector in place).
