Digital camera reviews of Motorola Surfboard SB5101 Cable ModemDigital camera Review: A great little modem Summary: 5 Stars
I got it in the mail, plugged it in to the wall outlet and the coax cable, (to replace my rented comcast modem) called the cable company, read them the serial #, reset it and started surfin' the web. it's been workin' ever since. Seems to be a great little modem and pretty much idiot proof.
Digital camera Review: A no brainer Summary: 5 Stars
Most cable companies will rent you a device for abut $5. If you plan on having cable internet for more than a year than you should buy this one yourself. In one years time you will recoup the cost, plus if you choose to get rid of your cable internet you can sell this device and get some money back.
The instillation was as easy as plugging in 3 cords, Ethernet, cable and power. Reliability is through the roof. I never have to power down the device due to connectivity issues and the few problems I have had have been ISP based.
In addition the device is smaller than I expected so it doesn't take up much room.
For cable internet customers this really is a no brainer.

Was using a DOCSIS 1.0 modem supplied by my isp back in 06'... seen all the reviews that said when going from 1.0 to 2.0 you would see a huge boost in speed with some saying you get more speed than what you pay for.. in my case that wasn't true at all.. my speed's did not change at all with a 10/1 connection.. still getting steady speed tho, usually getting 80 - 100% testing on speedtest.net
I will say that I was getting frequent disconnects from the net.. it wasn't a regular timeout where say in vent I would disco/reco.. I would lose connection completely.. then the only way I could regain the connection would be to disable / enable my LAN then refresh in a web browser a handful of times to get back online.. since using the surfboard that has all but stopped.. whereas I was getting disconnected half a dozen times a day.. now it rarely happens.. maybe once every few days..
also since I wasn't able to edit my seller's feedback.. I bought my surfboard from 'hotmovieprices' in 'new' condition, I received a box full of used stuff.. the merchant did go out of his way to make it right and sent me a new modem free of charge, and wouldn't let me send back the used modem (which did work) so good on him..
Digital camera Review: A very good cable modem Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using this cable modem for about a year now. I am very happy with the performance of it. It's a "Recommended to buy" item.

Needing an speed upgrade on my internet connection, I turned in my Verizon Wireless broadband card for the local cable company broadband connection. [Less mobile, but more agile.] After browsing around Amazon for a while, I decided to give the Motorola Surfboard a try based on the positive reviews, availability in my area and reasonable prices.
My cable guy commended me on my choice when he showed up to do the install. He spent more time laying out my wiring, disconnecting the unused dish connection to the cable company's connection and doing some adjustments at the junction box than plugging in my modem and testing it on my laptop. When plugged in, it fired up pretty quickly, acquired a signal and was working within 30-40 seconds of being powered up.
Thanks to all the other 5-star raters that were spot-on in their reviews of this product!
I have paired up my modem with the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router and they seem to work great together. Although i've been lazy to use it the last few days, the stand-by button is a cool feature. I've had my connection up and running for about a week now with no complaints!
