This is the modem that Comcast prefers and I bought it on Amazon at a savings of over $25 from buying it at Bestbuy (Comcast provider). Easy to install and works perfect. Just make sure you call Comcast and give them the number on the back of the modem so they can reset your account. We have not had one moment of problem with it and I wouldn't call myself a computer savy person. I just wanted to buy preferred equipment at a savings and found Amazon had the best price. I paired this with a Linksys Cable/DSL Router with a 4 port 10/100 switch so my husband and I could both be on our computers at the same time without having to have a network established. Like I said, we haven't had a moments problem with either one of them.Digital camera Review: Best in Class

I recently upgraded my 6Mbps internet service with Cox to 10Mbps, and was dismayed to find that my max downstream throughput was no higher than 5.8Mbps. Decided it was time to refresh my network attach infrastructure, which consisted of a Belkin N1 Router and Toshiba PCX2200 cable modem (DOCSIS 1.0). Switched to an Apple Airport Extreme router and the Motorola SB5101 modem. WHAM!!! Speed test results on [...] jumped to 19.7Mbps! I've had this modem for about 4 months. It was very easy to set up. It includes a port for a regular RJ-45 ethernet cable and one for USB. I'm able to receive (based on my cable plan) around 20Mbps downstream without any limitations from the modem. The only thing that bothers me about this modem is the blinking PC Activity light. This light should blink when your computer is transmitting data (when the modem is receiving data from the ethernet/usb port). However, it's always blinking. At first I thought my computer was infected with something and it was transmitting data without my knowledge. I ran a network packet capture and determined that was not the case. Upon searching online, I found out other people were complaining about this.
Maybe they should rename it from PC Activity Light to Random Blinking Light.
