Digital camera reviews of MyGift Kindle 2 Clear Silicone Cover Sleeve and Kindle 2 Anti-Scratch Screen ProtectorDigital camera Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I originally purchased the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover (fits 2nd Generation Kindle) and bought this thinking I could use it along with the leather case, but I wasn't able to (it doesn't fit). To my surprise, I prefer the skin! It's easier to hold the Kindle 2 while reading. I can still see/read the buttons on the Kindle 2 as well. Now I have no worries about the oil from my fingers prematurely causing the lettering on the buttons to wear off. I can't wait until a third party comes up with some sort of case which will allow the Kindle 2 and it's accessories (Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Clip-On Light (Black, Kindle Version), Amazon Kindle Replacement Power Adapter (fits 2nd Generation Kindle and Kindle DX)) to fit into one convenient case. Until then I'll use them both, I'll just have to remember that the Kindle 2 is no longer locked into the leather case so I don't send it crashing to the floor. :)
Digital camera Review: Not so easy Summary: 3 Stars
To many air bubbles and they are impossible to work out from underneath the film. I will not do it on future readers.
Digital camera Review: Really a 2.5 Summary: 3 Stars
This cover is okay, but not what I was hoping for. If the fit was a little better it would be a 4-star product easily, but it just doesn't fit tight enough to be more than about a 2.5. The edges aren't cut cleanly in some places, but otherwise the overall quality is okay. I used a little double sided scotch tape to hold the edges down around the screen and keyboard. With the tape in place it's good enough that I'll continue using it until a better option comes along.
This was so close to being perfect. :(
Digital camera Review: Silicone Skin is a Keeper Summary: 4 Stars
The silicone skin that I purchased is the Semi Transparent variety for the Kindle 2. It fits like a glove and has a nice matte type texture to it. Comes on a off very easily of you need it to. Definitely the right product for me.
The Screen Protector on the other hand was a bust for me. I could not get it to fit properly and no matter how hard I worked I just could not get all the bubbles out of it, despite have tried 10 or so times. When I used it I found it to be too glossy and reflective anyway, so I just took it off. It was free, so I just considered it a bonus. I do keep the little microfiber cleaner they sent in my Kindle sleeve to wipe down the screen from time to time.
UPDATE: 6/30/2009:
This Silicone Skin is definitely something I would want with my Kindle. After using it for a month I've come to enjoy the soft feeling that it gives an otherwise hard piece of technology. It adds a bit of bulk and heft to the Kindle and the texture is much more pleasing to the touch than the plastic Kindle.
I also have applied a decal from DecalGirl and while this cover DOES fit over the thin decal, it doesn't fit quite as perfectly as a "naked" kindle would. I'm using them both now and still enjoy the silicone cover.
Still a thumbs up.
Digital camera Review: Silicone case protector a thumbs up, but the screen protector is useless Summary: 4 Stars
I love the silicone protector for the Kindle 2. It is easy to remove and put back on. It fits the Kindle 2 perfectly and allows access to all controls and buttons--a necessity. I hope never to drop the Kindle, but this protective cover will certainly protect all the corners and the back very well. Since the back of the Kindle 2 is somewhat slippery, this protector provides the grip needed to help prevent accidental slippage.
The plastic "anti-scratch screen protector" included in this package is another story. I do not like it because it does not fit the screen well enough to prevent bubbles from appearing and one side is always obviously not flat to the screen. In other words, this screen protector is NOT INVISIBLE! It is also shiny and makes it harder to read easily. I think it does claim that you can remove it and reapply it and that seems to be true so far, since I've had to try several times to get it properly positioned. Still no luck, however. I think I'm going to eat the cost of it and just remove it. I find it to be more of a distraction that a help.
