Digital camera reviews of NETGEAR WPN824NA Wireless Mimo Router

Digital camera Review: 'easy'?
Summary: 1 Stars

Okay...well...first let me say I'm not real handy setting up computer things..so when the reviews said it was 'easy' to set up I thought "hey! I can do 'easy'." It took two hours on the phone with tech support ( in some foreign country...thick, difficult to understand accent) before 'we' were able to get it up and running with our computers. Once it was set up, it worked for a few months, then just quit one day. I didn't have it in me to do another two hours on the phone trouble shooting, so I bought AT&T's wireless router and hooked it up, ( in about 20 minutes) and it's been working fine ever since. Also...the blue flashing light is annoying if it's in or near where you sleep at night.

Digital camera Review: 20x Faster -- Great router for apartments
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this router to replace a Netgear WGR614 router (standard "wireless g"). I found the setup very simple (instructions were clearer than for the WGR614). Nothing was wrong with my WGR614, but I live in an apartment and get interference from about 5-10 other wireless networks, not to mention cordless phones, etc. I hoped that the WPN824 would be an improvement (with 7 antennas, etc.) Netgear advertises speeds up to 10x faster (at long distances) than regular wireless g (when paired with the matching wireless card, which I also got) -- I actually get speeds averaging 15-20x faster (measured by various benchmarking websites) than what I had been getting (at short distance... just one room away), so I'm very satisfied. Now I keep all my pictures and mp3's on a shared network drive and I can access them without any problem from anywhere in the apartment on my laptop (used to be virtually impossible). I can even backup my laptop HD over the network.

Digital camera Review: 3rd wireless router
Summary: 4 Stars

I started with a Microsoft just before they quit selling them. Switched to Belkin and it installed and worked well. Bought the Netgear for Trend Micro security and parental control features. The Netgear has similar signal strength to the Belkin, no noticible improvement with the Rangemax. The Trend Micro software works well and having one license on the 6 connected PC's simplifies upgrades a lot. The parental controls were not working until I discovered the overide was on by default. I like the security features. The installation and range get passing grades.

Digital camera Review: 5 Stars for what I use it for
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second wireless router for my home network. The first one (not a rangemax) was ditched due to frequent reboots and weak signals. I purchased the Rangemax about 16 months ago and it is GREAT for what I use it for. I have two computers and a network printer set up on the wired lan and I have two wireless notebooks. I've only had to reboot this router about once every three months. The range incredible, reaching far out into the back yard and thru two floors without problem

Negatives
- It's pricy and so are the cards
- The blue lights are cheesy.

I highly recommend this router.

Digital camera Review: 5/5 for Xbox 360
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally bought a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router which worked great with my Xbox 360 when then the router and 360 were a mere 20 feet from each other with only one wall in between. Then I moved my 360 down to the basement and the WRT54G only got one bar and was dropping connection which is bad when trying to win online. So I upgraded to the Netgear WPN824 router and have three out of four bars when the Linksys could only get one. I have had the Netgear WPN824 router for over five months and not one dropped connection while playing online. I do turn off the router occasionally at night because it seems if you leave it on for weeks you have to reboot it. The setup cd does not work so don't even try using it. I didn't listen to the other reviews about the cd and struggled and gave up and was about to return this but then turned to others advice and used the advanced setup it took a couple of minutes.
