I bought this charger for my inspiron 1501 after mine quit working and I couldn't afford a new one from Dell. When I got this one, I was so excited because I wasn't able to use my computer for a few days and could finally use it. The huge problem with this charger though is that it will not charge the battery! It always says "plugged in, not charging," and when I restart my computer it says that the ac adapter is not compatible with this computer. I never had this problem before with the original Dell charger. All in all, I will probably be saving up to buy one from Dell, and while my computer works when it's plugged in, the whole purpose of a laptop is so that I don't have to have it tethered all the time. I brought this item on October 03, 2009.
Well 2 weeks later I had to start positioning it a certain way so the green light would stay on. But that didn't matter because when it got hot it would just not work till it cooled down.
However on November 09, 2009 at 11:30 pm. I heard this popping noise and looked over at my laptop cord and it was sparkling. I immediately unplugged the cord from my wall. I tried to plug it up without my laptop and the green light doesn't come on anymore which means it's a goner. I have an online class I'm taking and luckily I still have my old Dell cord.
I'm just very blissful it did not destroy my laptop.
