Digital camera reviews of NIKE + IPOD SENSOR-USADigital camera Review: Dont ever turn it off! Summary: 3 Stars
I like Nike+ a lot. I run about 30 miles a week and over the past year I have found it to be a great tool. Needless to say I cant run without it, so I will say no more in terms of positive words.
However there are two major issues.
1. Calibrating it is hard. To get an accurate read on your runs it must be calibrated correctly, getting this down means spending a full treadmill run trying to get it right. Sometimes I am doing an all out sprint and it has me doing 3.4 miles per hour. Very frustrating but once you get it right...it is great.
2. There is a way to turn the sensor off if you not using it for a while or if your traveling. I have turned the sensors off three times for different reasons and every time they dont come back on and I need to buy a new one.
Otherwise Nike+ is the best way to manage your runs outside of a $200 GPS watch.
Digital camera Review: Eclipsed! Summary: 2 Stars
At the time of it's launch the Nike+ was an "ah-ha" product. Fairly accurate, a slick web interface and priced way below the clunky GPS systems from competitors. I couldn't wait to get my hands on one & ran with it for a number of years.
However, as those years have passed the system has become less & less attractive. Nike did upgrade the website, however the new improvements are mostly visual and although a forum is set up for feedback, not one of the very obvious needs suggested by posters have been implemented. In it's current form, the Nike+ has been eclipsed. There are now very superior products out there, particularly if you are an iPhone user. These alternatives are generally low cost, extremely accurate and the best of them is actually free.
As a company Nike appears to be increasingly unable to straddle the fence between equipment and apparel used by athletes and products designed for the fashion/casual market. Their marketing is still aimed at the former but a quick trip to a Nike store demonstrates that their financial heart lies with the latter. Their apparent lack of desire to keep the Nike+ system current demonstrates this dichotomy clearly.
Digital camera Review: Excellent Training Aid Summary: 5 Stars
If you are a runner, this is for you. An excellent training aid with the feedback you need to keep training and the "KITA" that you need when you slack.
Digital camera Review: Fickle Device Summary: 3 Stars
The Nike+ Sensor, like many inventions/ideas, looks great on paper and is great in theory, but really needs some tinkering to get the bugs worked out. I have had three of these little guys over the past two years. The first one was the best. It came as part of the Nike+ Sports Kit for iPod. I never had any problems with the first sensor. In fact, when I purchased the SportsBand that came with the second sensor about a year ago, I had to use the first sensor with the Band. The second sensor never once worked.
I lost my first sensor in the shuffle of a move and purchased the third sensor for my shoes. I was able to link it and use it once before it, too, bit the dust. I could kick myself for losing that first sensor.
In my opinion, Apple/Nike's decision to make the sensor automatically on is its major downfall. The movement of the sensor uses up battery life and you cannot replace/recharge the sensor's battery. In shipping, the sensors are obviously jostled and therefore must be using up battery life to explain why so many of these little guys are constantly Dead On Arrival or live such a short life. I will be trying one more sensor and this time purchasing from an actual store (hopefully to lessen some of the shipping pains) so returning, if need be, will be easier.
Overall, if this next sensor is too a dud, I will be waiting for a revamp of the Nike+ system before purchasing again. I say buyer beware. The product is a great concept, but has many flaws. Be sure to keep your paperwork for future problems/returns because you will more than likely experience some issue requiring it.
Digital camera Review: Free tradeoff Summary: 1 Stars
Instead of spend lot of money buying it, look for RUNKEEPER in appstore! It's free and you can track your run on the internet.
