Digital camera reviews of NIKE + IPOD SENSOR-USADigital camera Review: Fun and motivational Summary: 4 Stars
This product is a great motivational tool to continue your workouts. It calculates the distance you've run, time, and calories burnt while on your workout. Then you're able to load the information onto their website through iTunes. There you can keep track of your workouts and even share and compare with others.
Digital camera Review: Geared Toward The Runner Summary: 3 Stars
I have tried using all manner of pedometers and they all seem to stop working within a week or two. I purchased this sensor in the hopes that it could stay on and serve as a pedometer and measure all of my steps throughout the day but it isn't designed that way. It works fine for walking but its design is workout based. If you stop moving for 30-45 seconds, it goes into standby and the recorder pauses the workout. This is fine. It just means that I need to make a conscious effort to start the app when I know I will be walking any sort of distance.
If you don't have the Nike shoes with the indention under the insole for the sensor I would highly recommend getting a shoe-lace pouch. I tucked the sensor into my sock one day and tracked my progress on and off while at work. When I got home I took off my shoes & socks and threw the socks into the hamper. About 10 minutes later I remembered that the sensor was in my sock. It took me a bit to figure out exactly which sick the sensor was in because it is so small. I ordered a pouch and haven't been using the sensor while I wait for the arrival.
The iPhone App is really cool. It will play music for you while it tracks your progress and will even give you words of encouragement (I haven't tried that feature yet). It has a power song feature that allows you to pre-select a song that gets you pumped up and kick it in whenever you want at the push of a button. When you're done, you can upload your workouts to the Nike running web site so you can have discussions, see multiple workouts, graphs, etc. from your workouts and those of others you connect with. From there, you can share your progress with friends on Facebook or Twitter. The shortfall of this is it tells them that you *ran* X miles today. Most of my friends asked me, "Since when do *you* run anywhere?"
Pairing the device with the iPhone is simple. Activate the app in the settings to have it appear on your home screen. Launch the app and walk around a bit to wake up the sensor. The app detects it and links it to your phone. That's it. I did have a problem where the app lost track of the sensor completely and wouldn't even re-pair it after deleting it. A phone reboot solved that issue.
I am hoping this will help me walk more and walk farther to improve my health. I will be competing with myself. Even though it wasn't exactly what I expected, I would still recommend it. For $20-$25, you can't go wrong.
Digital camera Review: Good for about a week Summary: 1 Stars
I read a lot of reviews of this before I bought it and was wary of battery life. Mine lasted about a week before it quit. $19 for the sensor, $12 for a shoe "pouch" and the thing is worthless. This is the only electronic item I can think of where you can't replace the battery. WHY IS THAT?? While it's working, it's great, but after that, nothing. Unless they create a model where the battery can be replaced, I won't buy another one.
Digital camera Review: Good while it lasts Summary: 2 Stars
I purchased this (2nd one) for my wife who is an avid runner. The reason I'm giving it a 2 star rating is that it only lasts for about a year. Now it does what it's supposed to do and she likes it but a one year life span is crappy in my opinion. I guess if you are ok dropping $20.00 per year, than this is the item for you.
Digital camera Review: Great Training Tool Summary: 5 Stars
Not a 100% accurate but very close when calibrated. Is an excellent training and motivational tool. Easy to use on iPhone and on the Nike website.
