Digital camera reviews of NZXT CRYO LX Aluminum Notebook Cooler 15-Inch to 19-Inch with 120MM Adjustable Fans - Black (CRYO LX BLACK)Digital camera Review: A little noisy but good Summary: 4 Stars
I write simulations that run both cores of my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p at 99-100% and the typical temperatures I get from sensor readings are 89 C. This cooler reduces the temperature by 10-15 C with the fans at high. Plenty of holes for air flow. The pad is suitable for laptops bigger than mine, which has a 15.4" screen. It is bulky but light - folds for transportation. No manuals but doesn't need any. I expected the fans to be silent except for the whoosh from the air flow but that is not the case - the fans do make a little bit of noise. The Lenovo laptops have their processor cores on the far left corner of the laptop body so the laptop cannot be placed in a natural way on the cooler for the air flow to make contact with the hottest spot. But this is more of a design issue with the Thinkpad than with any laptop cooler.
Digital camera Review: AWESOME Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: Very sturdy, and high cooling power with fan speed control
Cons: no on or off power, and the extra usb slots feel a little cheap
Digital camera Review: All the Cool you need Summary: 5 Stars
Slick, sturdy, made of metal (not plastic), with 3 fans, a speed control, AND a 4-port USB hub.
It also has detents in the surface to prevent the Laptop from sliding down the incline, and it is PLENTY wide enough so that my monster HP DV7 laptop with a 17.3" wide screen doesn't even hang over the edges.
It comes with an external wall-wart power supply, and all needed connector cables. As others have written, you may need to use several of your laptop's USB connections IF you want to run this thing purely off your laptop's battery, but as I use the wall wart, this is not an issue(in fact one of the reasons I selected THIS cooler was the external power option. I simply DON'T believe you can get adequate airflow if the fans can only run off USB power). The 3 fans have a speed control, so you can turn them down if your laptop gets too cold. As good as this cooler is, there are a couple of things that would make it better.
1) When running on external power, there is no indication that it is on! It is VERY easy to leave it running after you've shut off the Laptop because it's so quiet. There should be an LED or other visible indicator showing that power is still applied.
2) Related to #1 - there is no POWER SWITCH! So the only way to turn it off is to unplug the wall wart. That's tacky!
3) Another mechanism that might work is that when the cooler detects loss of power on the inbound USB connector - it might assume that the laptop had been powered down, and that cooling could stop as well. The user should be able to turn off this <Auto-Sense> mechanism so that cooling would continue even if there was no USB connection.
.
So far - have been quite pleased with this product.
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect..'Weak' power connectors Summary: 4 Stars
This is designed really well--Minus--the power connector in the back
It fits my 17 inch widescreen perfectly, it's angled to allow for more ergonomic hand posture, it folds for 'easier' carry but it's still very bulky when folded
I got 2 of these and both the power connector broke inside the unit when they were bumped...I know you're supposed to handle with extra care--But--for $70 it should hold up better; especially since there are $20 options out there
Get it if you know you can be careful with it
Horrible choice if you have kids who may hit it
Digital camera Review: Awesome product! Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Dell XPS 17" gaming laptop with an NVidia graphics card. While gaming for hours on end, and needless to say gets very 'warm'. The store bought $25-$30 coolers did not cool down the laptop at all. Plugged in this cooler and within minutes the laptop was cooled down and running much faster. Well worth the extra money!
