Digital camera reviews of National Geographic NG 5162 Earth Explorer Medium Backpack

Digital camera Review: As good as expected
Summary: 4 Stars

I had seen this bag with a friend before I bought it, so no surprises. Good quality bag, size is perfect for my use, just be careful with laptop pocket, not as roomy as you'd expect.
Other than that, I just wish the padded part of the shoulder strap was a little longer, but thats just cause i'm a little taller than average, it sits a little too high on my back.

Digital camera Review: Backpack camera bag
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently had my camera gear stolen and suspect that the theives targeted my gear because it was a traditional looking camera bag. Now that I've replaced my gear and was planning on travelling, I wanted something more non-descript. This bag is perfect for travelling and it does not look like a camera bag. I carry a Canon Rebel XLS and two additional lenses, plus filters, batteries, memory cards, and other camera supplies. There is still room for personal supplies and a laptop while walking or hiking. It's not the most convenient for getting gear in and out quickly, but I've compormised for the anonimity and ease for touring.

Digital camera Review: Best bag ever.
Summary: 5 Stars

I always find excesive when I read reviews with sooo good comments. Sometimes I think somebody at the manufacturer did it.
No, I'm just a filmmaker, and amateur photographer and let me tell you this is the best bag I ever had. I want to trash so many I bought before. And I will.
It's perfect, every detail, every little pocket. It's well though, like It was made by photographers for photographers.
Awesome.

Digital camera Review: Disappointed- looks nice, feels horrible
Summary: 2 Stars

I thought I read enough reviews, but apparently not. I have one camera, a telephoto lens (70-300mm), and a macro lens (100mm). They do not fit in the bag (in the camera area) so I have to decide to not take a lens, or put one lens in a less padded area. There is also no real room for a tripod. Lots of "loops" on the side, but no velcro straps to put anything in the loops. Oh, wait, one velcro strap came, and it was about 3 inches long, which means it's useless.

I thought I might be able to put my camelback bladder in the bag, but that's not going to happen.

I have no idea where, or how to put a laptop in this bag. For all the zippers and velcro...it really doesn't hold much at all.

Comfort wise it's also unacceptable. The canvas straps just don't feel very good and they seem positioned a little odd, from other backpacks that I have.

Sorry I wasted the money on this. It's not good for much of anything, other than people saying "gee, what a nice bag"

UPDATE: Just to add, it was nearly impossible to put the camera body in while having a lens attached (other than the 50mm) which was an enormous aggravation. I tried it a few times and was afraid the lens was pushing too hard against the body because the bag was so constricting. If I took the lens off, then I had the problem of where to put the lens, because there wasn't enough velcro.

Just got the Canon bag and it's 1000% better and less than half the price.

Digital camera Review: Exactly what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

Specialty backpacks ALWAYS sacrifice something - comfort, durability, whatever. This pack gets five stars for tackling the challenge of designing a durable backpack that gets your camera gear and your laptop where you are going, safely, and still leaving you a decent compartment for trinkets.

This backpack fits my needs as well as it possibly could. It will hold a laptop, a ton of camera gear, and a small amount of additional personal items, and it is incredibly comfortable.

LAPTOP COMPARTMENT: This is not designed to carry all sizes of laptops - Mine is a 13" and it fits easily. I have even fit two 13" laptops at the same time. I dont think a 15" will fit.

CAMERA COMPARTMENT: Your gear isnt going to fit snugly like it would in a pelican case with the foam cut outs, and the flexibility on how to subdivide the space is very limited, but the compartment is very well protected. It fits my D90 with attached lens, a 12-24 wide angle zoom, a 50mm prime, my sb-600 speedlight, with some room to spare. Thats a lot of gear for a travelling hobbyist. Additional pockets hold 4 extra batteries, filters, chargers, lens pens, actual pens, and memory cards.

TOP COMPARTMENT: This is a drawstring satchel, and isnt what sells the pack. I take this pack on the plane with me all the time, and this area holds just what I need it to: a book, a light jacket, some snacks, an ipod, etc. It's not impressive, but if you need room for more non-photo items then this is not the pack for you.

I love this pack and take it everywhere.
