Digital camera reviews of Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY JUST YET. IT STILL NEEDS WORK...
Summary: 2 Stars

Don't be fooled by all the recent good reviews on here. I bet you anything it is Navigon trying to save face on their product. I wanted desperately to like this unit, but in fails in one area....basic routing!! It does get it right most of the time, but the other times it will want to take you 20 minutes out of the way on one of the most basic routes you can enter in. This is completely unacceptable and I know for a fact that tons of emails have been sent to Navigon for support. They will reply that the routing issue will be fixed sometime in January with an update, but I have a feeling that they are going to charge us for the update!

I do not recommend anybody buying this unit for more than $150. Please do your research first and you will find out that many people acknowledge that there is a routing issue. Please spend your money on a unit that can do basic routing, also, make sure that the company will do free updates if.

Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!
Summary: 1 Stars

...... if you need ANY kind of support for this product, do not even think that you will speak to a human being. they want you to go to their website and "someone will get back to you within 48 hours!" FORTYEIGHT HOURS?
i am so upset with navigon that i will tell EVERYONE that I know NOT to even think about purchasing one of their products!

I tried to update my GPS and what happened was it erased my memory card to download the new update and then when trying to update I KEEP getting the error message that there is not enough space for the new data!

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!

Digital camera Review: DO NOT BUY THIS!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought my Navigon 5100 and was fairly happy with it for a couple months. Then one day it could not find my current location. I've tried rebooting it and restarting it at different locations, but it never worked again. now it just sits there and mocks me.

The one thing that sold me on buying this product was the lane assistance, but it never worked well. It only comes on when there is light or no traffic. I don't really need lane assistance when all the lanes are open. It would tell me there was traffic even when I could see there was none.

When the Navigon did work, it took anywhere from 3-10 minutes to start giving directions. When giving directions it does not tell you if the highways off ramp is south, north, west or east. It's terrifying when your driving and can't figure out which off ramp to get off on.

I never understood why they put the speakers on the back of the product. It makes the verbal directions low and muddy. If they had simply put it on the front, it would have had great sound.

Whenever a traffic alert came up you would have to touch a small box on the screen to make it disappear. Living in Los Angeles, new ones were coming up once every two seconds. Annoying and disrupts driving.

Navigon is a bad product. DO NOT BUY!

Digital camera Review: Died after 6 months
Summary: 1 Stars

This unit worked fine - my new TomTom 1 (the cheapest) is easier to use but lacks the traffic and text-to-speech - until it broke. I had been using it for 6 months, placed it on the floor, and it never turned on again. Thinking it may just be a defective model, I have refrained from writing a review until I gave Navigon the opportunity to fix the problem. They have failed miserably to correct the failure, essentially passing off my contact information and then never responding.
If you only need a GPS for 6 months, and you get this on the cheap, go for it. Otherwise, try something else.

Digital camera Review: Don't Waste Your Time Go with a Garmin.
Summary: 1 Stars

Pretty much the other reviews are correct. Dont BUY THIS UNIT

-Touch Interface - Doesn't work. Not very responsive. Very frustrating. Which is not a good thing while driving. I can't stress enough how frustrating this was.

-Real Time-Traffic - This is also crappy. I was in bad traffic and it would tell me that. I would hit OK to clear the screen and it would pop right back up. This happened for about 5 minutes straight.

-while using the GPS this thing had me go in circles a few times. get off an exit only to immediately get right back on. While ive heard of this happening on other GPS, i can CONFIRM it happened to me on this model.

-Antenna - This thing has a huge lengthy antenna wire that it wants you do put up on your windshield with suction cups. Garmin's have it built into the unit so theres a hell of a lot less clutter on your dashboard.

I had a near impossible time trying to look up a business. Garmin has a simple A-Z look up... but Navigon makes you narrow it down asap with zagats restaurants, etc.... for example Disneyland came up under attractions quickly but Knotts Berry farm didnt' come up at all. even though they are about 10 miles apart.

I still dont like it.
