Digital camera reviews of Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorDigital camera Review: Garmin is better~! Summary: 2 Stars
Seriously, if you have any brains you'll spend a few extra dollars and buy a Garmin. You can get a 265t with free traffic for about an extra $50, and that is money well spent!! The Navigon is plagued with a terrible speaker, made worse by the garbled voice that is installed in the unit. Plus I had the newest maps from Navigon, and it still didn't have my road on there, despite the road being 2 years old, Garmin had it right out of the box! Garmin has a great speaker, with clear voices, and you can customize just about everything very easily, whereas with the Navigon you have to search on various sites to try and find what you need, and then hope it doesn't crash the unit when you install it. The "reality view" is a joke, it's just a generic picture of a skyline with the proper number of road lanes, and it's a static picture so you can't even see that you are moving, brilliant move Navigon! I had this for a week and realized why the prices on Navigons drop like a lead balloon just a few months after they are released!
Digital camera Review: Good Summary: 4 Stars
It takes at least 1 minute, or more some times, starting when powered on. Excellent graphics. The spanish language speaker reads textually the street names, so you never understand what they say. Maybe good for people who dosen't understand English. Easy to use, very frendly menus. Good traffic advises.
Digital camera Review: Good GPS for price Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good gps for the money. It is very fast to lock on to a new location. The spoken street names are very helpful and the pronunciation is OK. The unit seems very well made. Operation is very intuitive after a quick reading of the manual, which is clear and easy to use. The window mount is easy to install and remove and I take it off every time I park the car. The screen is clear and provides info on street name, direction, speed and elevation which are helpful. Routing is OK but does not always take the best route. There are several routing options and they can have a big impact on the routing. On the down side: the maps seem rather dated, there is a fair amount of vibration in the window mount, the printed info on the screen is very small and hard to read, you have to hold the on/off button for about 15 seconds.
Digital camera Review: Good Price, Great Device. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this device for my wife for christmas and have been happy ever since. The unit looks nice, menus are intuitive and easy to read and the integrated lifetime traffic service is a fantastic feature. If you are looking for a device that can be everything to everyone this probably not for you (and likely no GPS unit is because it doesn't exist). However, if you are looking for a reaonably priced unit with a number of higher end features that can help you navigate your daily life a bit easier, you will not be disappointed by this device.
Navigon 5100 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator
Digital camera Review: Good for the price !!!! Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first GPS. And I have only used limited models of Garmin and Magellan. So am not sure how helpful my review maybe !!!
Pros:
** Very stylish and looks great on the mount.
** Integrated traffic receiver. Free traffic updates for life. You may have to pay a monthly charge for the other GPS. The traffic update is very fast in California and other bigger cities. It indeed helped me after taking a detour to reach my destination faster. This is the major feature that I considered to make this purchase.
** Very good instructions. Tells us if the destination is on the R/L. This prepares the driver in finding a parking on the same side.
** Zagat rating and description for most POIs is very apt. The contact information is another advantage.
Cons:
** The voice is not as good as the other GPS receivers in the market. This can be improved.
** I bought it during the Thanksgiving sale. So everything worked out cheap. Otherwise it is expensive for the competitors in market today.
** Sometimes takes you to weird destinations. (This could be a problem with NAVTEQ, which is also the software for many GPS' in the market).
