Digital camera reviews of Netgear WGR614 Wireless-G RouterDigital camera Review: Amazing features and ease of use, especially for little $$ Summary: 5 Stars
I've used virtually all the netgear products, with great success. The WGR614 I setup for a friend, and wow, the range and speed were impressive. I got stong signals upstairs or down, front or back of the house; way better performance than from the older 802.11b-only products. And it was a snap to setup. This is by far one of the most refined, well documented, easy to install netgear models I've used (it looks cool too). And the security features I configured on the wireless, very tight. Also, no performance hit for the compression that I could measure (in 64bit mode; 128 seems like overkill to me, so i did not comare performance with 128 bit).Anyhow, an excellent product all around. As good, or slightly better than the Linksys equivalent, which I have also used. (PS: If you have broadband with no firewall, it's only a matter of time before a worm or hacker gets at you. Buy one, seriously.)
Digital camera Review: Another junk router Summary: 1 Stars
WAY too many dropped connections. Their tech support is totally clueless. They said this router doesnt work with my wireless adapter and I needed to buy a Netgear adapter (wtf?!). Of course their support is located in India where you can barely understand what they are saying. Avoid this junk at all costs
Digital camera Review: As advertised Summary: 4 Stars
It installed without a hitch by following the simple instructions. It is working reliably. And I operate it with a Macintosh, Safari.
Digital camera Review: At the price point, the best router ever Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this router for $19 after rebate. Took it home, set it up within 15 minutes and was happily networking away on two laptops in no time. The admin interface is really easy to use, there's context sensitive help, lots of features and it even looks good on my desk. All in all this is the best wireless router for the money I could find. Please note that this review refers to WRG614 v5.0.
Digital camera Review: Average Router Summary: 2 Stars
Overall, this router has issues with keeping its connection. I purchased this locally at a B&M mainly because of the Netgear "quality", but was surprised that after two weeks, the router would lose its connection to the internet. The connection to the router would work fine with my laptop, but the router out to the DSL modem wouldn't communicate at all.
I've upgraded the firmware, but that only established the connection until the next day when it failed again. I have two wireless connections and a wired computer to this router and I would have to recommend not purchasing this router. A cheap price may encourage you in purchasing this, but read up on the reviews via Amazon and see why so many people dislike this router.
On a side note, the graphical setup interface was extremely useful and chalk full of options. It was an extremely easy setup through the wizard and offered power options for advanced users. It works as advertised, but when it loses its connection, you have to pull the power cord and power it up again to make it work. I've been through brands such as D-Link, Linksys, and now this, but it ranks in the middle of pack for the routers I've had in the past.
